HELP '14 C63 507 Clicking when turning

Argh, just recently I noticed that when I turn right, the driver side rear makes a clicking sound

I brought it to MB for a roadtest, and they can't reproduce the sound...hence I took a video.

Can anyone diagnose what this sound is?

Interesting...I could have sworn I heard the same in my car (507 in the parking garage) while turning as well.

I chalked it up to a rock or the surface of the garage with the tires making the noise as it seems to be a mix of clicking and chirping of tires.

The other thing it could be is the diff (I assume you have the LSD?) - as in the surface of the garage makes the diff grab and chatter a bit. Mine has the LSD.

The floor in my garage is coated and pebbly and really grippy that is why I mention the diff as it only happens on turns...

Unfortunately with noises like this, until they get worse they are tough to figure out. The dealer is no help as in their minds "is it broke?" "does it not work?" is all they know how to deal with...

I will listen to mine more intently now and report back if I learn something.

Yes, I have a LSD.

While it's a parking garage, it is asphalt paved. My concern is that this sound did not exist before, and now has magically appeared

I totally get what you are saying about the dealer, until it becomes an issues is only when they will address it. Hoping the video will get their attention, by highly unlikely LOL

Do you have aftermarket wheels? And, have you changed your diff fluid?

Sounds a little "tinny" to be diff gears. sounds more like something is hitting the wheel on turns, but I can't imagine what it would be since the rears don't turn laterally, plus you're not pulling massive g's to make something move and hit the wheel. I'm stumped. how about swapping rear wheels side to side to see it that makes a difference? (I realize you're tires are probably directional, this suggestion is just for trouble shooting purposes).

I have the OEM 19's for the 507, and had the Diff fluid changed at 2,000KM.

I am just as stumped. ugh.

It could be cv joint or a u joint. Your best bet would be to jack up the car and slowly rotate the tire to pin point where the clicking occurs. Also make sure all the axle nuts are properly tightened. Also make sure to check all tires front and rear. It difficult to pinpoint a sound from a car esp in garage. It could also be coming from the front tire.

Are you sure this is coming from the rear of the car?
Are you braking at the same time as turning?

FYI, we don't have cv joints on these cars.

Check to see if it's a defective bearing...it's gotta be from the front. I would take that video to your MB dealer to show them. If it's not there all the time, it is pretty tricky to diagnose

My mistake. I thought we did. Anyways, best bet is to take it to the dealer and like it was said before it could be coming from the front. Does the sound only occur when you turn or is it all the time? Could be tpms sensor which might be loose...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have an appointment with MB this coming Monday, I shall see...

But I can swear it's coming from the rear, but it might just be reverbing off the garage walls.

that vid you took will help. be sure to have a shop foreman test ride with you, and show him the video as well.

I have the exact same sound. Only when turning right. The mechanics hear it, it is very loud, worse than yours actually. It is the front driver's side. They took off the tires and re-tightened the bolts but it didn't work. The alignment guy checked it out and is stumped. They have ordered new front brakes and I have an appointment next friday. I have 14k on mine and it is getting to the point that I try and avoid to turn right if people are around!

I am starting to feel a little sloppiness actually when turning right now. I am probably going to see the dealer but my suspicion is, if it is only when turning right, it has to be the suspension and not the brakes.

Actually we do. We have constant velocity spider joints on our rear axles.

Hoping it is as easy as one of your buddies playing the old "zip tie" trick on you...
Unfortunately I don't think so, and I am stumped.

Don't know what the noise is but our cars have universal or constant velocity joints at each end on the 1/2 axles don't they ?

Yes, the half-axles have inboard and outboard CV joints. But they're not separately replaceable. You have to replace the whole half-axle. That's why mechanics don't talk about our CV joints. Sometimes the half-axle is called a "CV axle," but you can't buy a CV joint for this car like you can for many others.

We were 't discussing availability
Only if our cars had them
They do
Simple

Our axles can be rebuilt by a driveline shop using oem parts
mb chooses to sell the assembly

Just got the car back, and the ticking noise is now gone

MB did RE/RE on the brake pad pins and pad brackets on the driver front wheel. It appears to have worked.

Great news, mine goes in this Friday, they ordered new rotors.

What is a RE/RE? replace all pad pins and brackets?
