Mercedes Introduces The New 4.0 V8 BiTurbo
I've posted this also in the w205 section, but thought it might be a good read here because, popularity.
Uploaded on the 11th. Stats are 375kW/650NM or 502bhp/480lb-ft for us English people.
Worth a watch. Interesting info. Looks like a complicated engine, honestly was expecting a little bit more power, but I'm sure there will be a performance package...

How much boost are they putting through that block? I remember when I first saw the numbers for the CLA45AMG 2.0 block, I was amazed at how much boost from factory MG is running through that, O_o

AMG
17 PSI or 1.2 BAR. Turbos are placed on top of the engine for better throttle response and faster spooling. Dry sump is a plus also.
Engine in this state of tune is not stressed at all so its a huge plus. I see this engine in some amgs with around 600BHP from factory... now the question is how much room is there for tuners to play and will amg lock ECU the way bmw did with s63tu.
Good job AMG.

Boring
A 4L is weak. Look what the 5.5 puts out tuned, low 700hp, this engine will be maxed out around 600hp.
The turbos in the V with the exhaust out the centre is like a duramax. Exhaust work will be $$$$

Remember when the 5.5 came out in 11/12, that in only had 550hp....i doubt the 4.0L will be choked out at 600hp
The bottom end is stout and the simple fact that it's tied to the AMG GT, probably means there will be a 600HP variant straight from the factory

502hp would make sense for the new c63 as it slots in just under the 507 so people who just bought those don't feel cheated.
Given that the base E63 is 557hp, the C63 performance package would be around 535hp. Should be able to get over 600hp with a tune, but it'll never come with more HP than the e63 from the factory.

500 hp and 480 lb ft in a car that will be 200 lbs lighter (not unreasonable considering the new base C klasse) is not enough for a street car?
It's not a drag or road racer
It's a luxury car
Factor in at least 20% better fuel efficiency and it is a engineering accomplishment
That car will easily be chip tuned to 550/550
Let us not forget our avg speed is 40 mph
Look at your obc lol

Weird, cause I see tons of c63s drag racing and road coursing all the time. In fact, when bought new, the dealer rents a road course for you to take it out there and do laps?
There is nothing luxurious about a c class, it's a dime a dozed, base model with basic functions. It's practically the new civic.

The new C Klasse will be a bullet and I assure you it will sound pretty good too!
Really curious to see what the tuners do with this power-plant.

That's an AMG GT video. There's no guarantee that this dry-sump version of the engine will be in the C63. It could be dry-sump/wet-sump like it is with M159/M156. The HP is certainly disappointing for the GT compared with the SLS. The SLS Black Series gets 622 HP from the M159.

Probably 1 or 2 percent at most
They rent the track for schooling not racing lol
It's a luxury car made for street use not a race car
Has nothing in common with a DTM car lol
And not a single one is NHRA certified drag racing
Leather seats
Power everything
Luxury car more than drag racer lol

They're clearly saying the first AMG GT will be 510 hp. The bar is set pretty low. There's no replacement for displacement. I bet it will be a while before we see 600 from this engine. I also suspect the C63 version will be wet-sump and detuned. Closer to 450.
