Head bolts getting done....

Hey guys,

The head bolt job got approved by my local dealer and i just had a few questions.

Is there anything i can do while the motor is apart other than long tubes ?

What should i be expecting and or looking for?

Any advice or input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Cam follower replacement is standard part of the job. If they weren't going to, have them use the M159 followers. They're straight replacements and a better design. Insist, even if you have to pay for the parts. Also, make sure they check for cam lobe wear.

Did one fail?
Did you have a cel and coolant loss re: the sib?
What year? Are you under the original or cpo warranty?
They are doing under warranty and upon request?

coolant and Oil mixing when checking the dip stick repair being done at local shop, OEM parts are about 800.00 and labor 1500 to 2g's

replacing heads gasket stud bolts and other little things.

installing shorty header while i'm in there.

Use the m159 valve buckets and arp head studs! You'll be good to! Forget the shorty headers. Waste of money.

After i take a look at the VB i'll make a decision then, If they look good they stay.
Shorty header already got them from a member here for a nice price.
After looking at the factory manifold anything in better, arp head stud are over priced so im leaning to the new OEM stock bolt for now still up in the air.

Also once you run 1000 mile or so on ARP studs you'll suppost to go back in and retorque them.
factory studs are one time use, set them and for get them.

False economy on the buckets! Stock are a bad design and cause tappet noise and cam lobe wear. The new parts are cheap at twice the price.

I have no problem with the revised oem bolt
I would definitely use the revised m159 buckets while you're in there
My 2 cents

How did they confirm a bolt broke?
Any cel's
Did they do the any tests?
Bubbles in the coolant?
Coolant in the cylinders?
Etc

Let us know if they find a broken bolt and post the invoice if you don't mind

Looks like they are pulling engine and tranny out the front, wonder why not just lift engine straight up and out.

Isn't it easier to remove the engine/tranny as an assembly?

I had the tranny dropped in 40 mins.

Removing all those hoses and rads in the front is a huge pain.

Why do you think they're pulling the engine if they're just working on the heads?

Might be easier and a better job since they are doing headers too
Much easier to work on an exposed engine

Does anyone think replacing motor mounts at the same time might not be a bad idea?
