High Mileage C63's?

I've been scouring the internet for the perfect C63 that both meets my budget I've set and features and I'm seeing one common thing....the ones with higher miles are considerably cheaper.

This would be a third car and not a daily driver, maybe light highway commuting and weekend joy rides and some track time. So whats the reliability of these things over 50k miles?

Most people I've seen most on here seem to have lower mileage ones but the 50-65k mi range on 09-10 seems to be a real sweet spot for super bargains.

well there are 2 versions
pre 2012 or pre-face lift
and 2012+ facelifted
the newer cars have a better tranny along with cosmetic changes
do a search and you will find tons of specific information
there is also a headbolt issue affecting ealier VIN's (huge sticky thread on it)

if you are going to use it as a toy and put <5k on it a year
get the newest, lowest mileage, that fits your budget
MB's are typically know for their robustness and reliability

Yup that was certainly my plan heading into it, the 2012 and newer models are all slightly out of my preferred spending limit, though the woman likes the idea of more warranty

What got me curious about higher mileage is i could save near 10k on purchase price and use that on upgrades and gas

I've only had mine for a year, it is a 2009
I've had no issues and honestly don't expect any
a warranty is comforting (I bought mine CPO'ed from a dealer)
you may want to look into that
get a good price for an older car but with a bit of warrant
go to MB USA and search used CPO inventory for a C63
they have some good financing rates too

and honestly for a bit more buy a CPO from the dealer
a little more peace of mind
they have both pre and post face lift
you can negotiate for another year of CPO, new tires, etc., they are willing to deal on these cars

as far as the car: damn close to the best I've ever owned to date
and I've owned a lot of nice cars over a 30 year period

Not trying to scare you off here... But you wanted to know about reliability on high mileage models... well I have a 2009 with 96k miles on it (I got it with 14k on the clock). Keep in mind, I drive it like I stole it, always, all the time

Here is the list of problems I have had since owning it

Air Intake gasket (warranty)
Ignition failure, entire steering column replaced (warranty)
Rear window sunshade (warranty)
both rear lights cratered and smoked, burnt plastic smell, hmmm (warranty)
both fuel pumps (warranty)
Secondary Air injection failure, pump works, but something else in the chain is failing (currently diagnosing, no warranty, replaced the emissions hardlines as well as the check valve, next step is the O2 sensors, all 4 since apparently Bosch recommends they be replaced around 100k anyways)
HVAC Blower motor seized up (fixed out of warranty, $220 for the part)
Clearcoat on the roof rails around the roof rack mounts is peeling off (not much I can do about that)

All in all, most of the problems have been known issues that MB took care off (well teh expensive ones anyways, but I am now out of warranty). The only issue I have right now that will be stupid expensive is I am guessing warn lobes on the cams, and headbolts (I am not saying they have a problem, they may, may not, but since I will have the valve covers off, I may as well replace the bolts.

The only reason people don't daily their C63 is because

1. Re-sale value decreases with mileage, especially a high end model.

2. No need. Other people own other cars for driving to work and the grocery store and keep the C63 for the weekend or track.

I'm driving mine till it dies. A car won't fit in your casket, enjoy it now.

Excellent info! kind of reinforces the warranty part since benz parts can cost....if I was a tad more do it yourself with a wrench i'd probably be all over some of these high mile cars for the prices.

Drive it like I stole it will probably we how I go about it, which is why i'll leave it for a weekend car I dont want to have to fill it up every day hah

I never understood the concept of 'saving' a car...for what???

maybe a vintage Ferrari or something but not a mass produced common mode of transportation

I don't use mine as a daily as I have a more economical run around and another toy for weekend blasts.

However, ever since buying my 63 2 months ago, it is hard to keep out of it. The noise and driving pleasure is so damn addictive. I gravitate towards it in the garage everytime I decide which one I one to use.

Such a charismatic car!

Mine's a 2008, 83k miles. I drive it every day. Clean car fax when I bought it, no unusual maintenance issues in the 1.5 yrs I've had it. For the price I paid, a fuel pump failing or something along a similar repair cost would be expected. I'd still come out cheaper than paying for a newer cpo model. That said, the wife's cpo'd ML350 just had the backup camera and a parktronic sensor replaced under CPO warranty haha!

Whether you get a 2012+ or -, you will absolutely laugh when you drive it everyday. I don't have to drive my car everyday to work, but when I do, it is a treat and a half. You really can't go wrong. Enjoy and welcome to the community (when you buy of course).

My '11 @ 142,000km (88,000mi) is my DD and I love every minute of it!

Mind you, I just got it, but I know the previous owner, and the car's complete service history, and it drives like it just came from the factory.

No worries on the miles...as most people will tell you, a car that's a 2008-2009 and has say 60K miles has 10K miles or less on it per year, which is under the average, but enough to keep everything properly going in the car.

Look over the car, you can tell how it was treated before...are there tons of scratches/dents and interior wear, or does it look like how you would treat it? Go from there
