US GPS Discs Part Number for C63?
Went to a MB dealer in TX and asked to have US data uploaded for my 2010 C63. The SA claimed they didn't have the 2014 discs and wanted to charge me $250.00 to order that version. When I told him the 2012/2013 version would be sufficient, which he had in stock, he told me it was more complicated than just inserting the discs into the CD player and loading the data from there. He continued, they "would have to upload the data directly to the hard drive," but didn't explain further how their shop would accomplish this or give me a price.
I told him I was pretty sure there was no need to do anything other than load the data through the CD player. He was adamant I was wrong and still wouldn't quote me a price.
Bear in mind, I just returned from Europe with my US spec 2010 C63 and in that year, I uploaded Euro maps using only the CD player while letting the car run exposed to the satellites for almost two hours until it was finished. When I asked for the part number for the 2012/2013 and/or the 2014 versions, he refused to provide either one. The shop lounge area was full with other customers and I didn't want to argue with the SA, so I thanked him for little to nothing and left.
My three questions for the forum in general-
1. What is the part number for the disc set I'm looking for? Either the 2012/2013 or the 2014 version will suffice. I'll try to hunt them down from there, so I can upload the data on my own.
2. Was the SA correct in his statement regarding the uploading of new data would be different than how I accomplished this in 2010? I'm pretty sure he was incorrect, but thought I'd ask the forum just in case something changed over the last four years.
3. Can I upload the new US GPS data in confidence? I know switching the head back to NTSC from the ENG mode is necessary for it to read the discs correctly. If anyone has updated their GPS in a pre-FL C63, what was your process?
Thanks in advance,
EC

Pretty straight forward. Eject all discs from the CD changer. Insert into slot 1 and kick it off. Takes 2-3 hrs. I recommend the car connect to a battery maintainer while it updates to be safe unless you are certain the battery has a good charge.

Thank you, AMGer. Went to another MB dealer who was more forthcoming with the part number and the $250 price tag. A perfect P/N match to what you provided. End result - the second dealer will get my business.
Included a show room floor piece from the second dealer just for the heck of it. Yes, it's a BS.

I would just leave the car running if you don't have an alternative. I just purchased a 2013 version from a fellow forum member today and I should get it shortly. Once I am done with it, I can put it back up for sale if anyone is interested I guess.

BTW, the update is interruptible. In other words, if COMAND shuts down in the middle you can then start the car and continue the update where you left off. But I'm sure that would freak a lot of people out so MB discourages people from doing their own update.

If you don't mind, keep us posted on your install, papashango. I've heard a rumor that the discs are a one time use simply to prevent circulation sales. I passed my Euro discs to a forum member and he's not been able to upload (to my knowledge), following the exact procedure I used when they were new. Curious to know if this is urban legend or not.

Well I sure as hell hope not cause I've already paid for it and it's on the way to me. But I don't think it's true, back when I had a 09 C350 I updated it with 12 data from a disc that I purchased used locally. So I really doubt that they are a one time use, unless it's something recent that they changed.

Is there a way to tell what version is loaded?
A CPO checklist item is to make sure it's the latest
I don't think mine is due to some local roads missing
They have been completed for years

The latest software/telematics version is different from the latest map data. so no not part of the cpo. Ya i wouldnt attempt this without a battery charger or just leaving the car running the whole time. It may resume but knowing benz software it may crash and lock up if disrupted. These comand units are stupid expensive too so if you're out of warranty dont chance it.
