Was looking for a fuel efficient second car and got stuck exploring the wide world of motorcycles. Starting to get pumped!

Anyone compliment their 6.2L beast with a bike? Cruiser or sport?

I was entertaining it a little while back, came to the conclusion that the only bike I would buy right now is the BMW1000rr.
My friend just picked up a '14 Ducati HyperMotard as seen below:

I am in the market for a Ducati monster 796. currently daily driving the c63 in heavy bay area traffic, i think a bike will make a good alternative.

This and that.
I have a GSXR 1000. After my recent accident from my Gixxer it appears that my riding days are over. I am getting better now and all but I've gotten an ultimatum from the family and the gf to get rid of them. I am not really left with much choice anymore. Perhaps I'll come back to the bike world after a few years with a cruiser or something but at the moment it's out of the question.

Rode a Kawasaki, Honda, Harley, Honda 103,000 miles. Can't show you my left arm, shoulder hurts all the time, buggered knee, ankle and foot are still usable. Like the black cane best. Oh yes no bikes in the garage.

Don't do it. You are literally guaranteed to crash your first year of riding, it's just a matter of how bad it will be. Everyone that I know that rides has crashed at some point or another.

The Buell on the right is gone, but I still have the Ducati Monster 1000 S2R. It compliments the C63 very well : )

yikes, plenty of injuries and a guarantee to crash at some point. Not so pumped anymore.

I would of course take plenty of precaution with gear and take the MSF class.

I took the MSF class which was great here in NJ. Was getting all pumped up to buy a first bike, and then started doing my background reading (check out "proficient motorcycling", it's a must read) and decided it was a no go. May change my mind in the future, but looking at the #s and stats really kind of ruined it for me. That being said, I love riding. It's a damned paradox.

They should make everyone learn how to ride and take the course - it'd probably reduce the # of boneheaded car drivers who endanger those on a bike.

I had a bike for two seasons in my first season I lived in very rural areas which was great for going for cruises. No harm no foul. My brother who taught me how to ride (years of hardcore stunts and the like) crashed my bike in my driveway. Going slow but still left him with lots of bandaids.

My second season I put new tires on the bike and was excited to go out for a ride. In a 30ish minute cruise I had four near smashing experiences. All due to other drivers not seeing me. I actually slapped a van with the top of my helmet when a soccer mom in a minivan cut me off and parked.

I would still gladly go for a ride right now because even though that ride was awful I really enjoyed it but still sold the bike (a few years ago).

I have an 09 Kawasaki ZX-6R.
Got too many mods on her.
-OZ Magnesium rims
-HID Projectors
-Pazzo Shorty Levers
- BrakingTech slotted and waved rotors
- saddlemen seat
- revalved Ohlins steering damper

Put new Michelin Pilot Power 3 tires on too. She is pretty much track ready.

but havn't ridden this season. She is stored away due to health issues. I hope to get better soon and get back on. If I don't get back to how I was, than sadly I will have to let her go. I can't stand her just sitting like this.

I've pretty much had all styles from the CBR's, ZX's, ZL's to multiple Harley's. Got to the point where while I was fortunate to have never been in a accident I know allot who were and some didn't make it.
Started to worry, especially with the wife on back about being taken out by some bozo on their phone. Worried to the point where ridding was no longer fun.
Now it's primarily dirt bikes or dual sports for trail hopping.

If your looking for a fuel efficient ride go for a smaller car.

My daily get around town bike is a Vespa GTS 250. It gets me around LA traffic better then anything I have ever driven and I can split lanes faster than most big bikes. Gas millage is amazing too. Only $8 to fill up.

Yes Yes... some laugh. But usually while I am blasting by them with a grin on my face.

But then the bike I use to complement the C63 is this... A complete torque monster! Scary fast.

I used to have a GSX-R 600 K6. Very smooth and easy bike - until 6k rpm it's a nice "cruiser".
After 3 years, sold it last year and decided to stay off the streets for a while. Too many unaware car drivers on the roads (at least in my part of the world).
But I might get back on a dirtbike soon, after a 10 year break.

Had a r6, and an r1. Can't even begin to tell you how many times i saw death. No matter how careful you are, idiots on the road are a dime a dozen. I almost get hit atleast 5 times a day while im in my C63, and that is in no way something hard to see. Stick to the car, bikes are death traps. Fun, yes but i will guarantee you an accident within two years. I've gotten hit and fell off because of idiots that merge or taking turns on red lights.

Agree with that guy ^

Had a pretty good wreck about 2 years ago that I should not have walked away from but somehow was blessed and did. They are fun but there is not a day that goes by that I don't think about that day and what I could have missed out on; first house, wife and above all first baby. Not preaching but just throwing my 2 cents out there...

Stick with cars and if you must have something efficient go buy an old civic, drive it for a couple years and then sell it for little to no loss.

had a ducati 848. used to have to roll it down the street before i could start it so my neighbors wouldn't hate me. stupid loud, but so awesome.

stopped riding and eventually ended up selling it after a friend's friend got hit by a car riding his bike around and ended up losing a leg. still miss it all the time though, but i just try to distract myself with other things every time i start getting the itch to get another one.

Obviously there are horror stories with bikes. Yet, you still see them everywhere... I'd love a bike for small trips (I get it, as soon as you leave the house you're on your own). Still, just to school and back.

I've been riding for over 40 years. Never hit or been hit by a car. Only thing close was being cut off on a wet day and going down. Didn't get hurt. Other times that I have fallen was due to my boneheadedness - like leaning too far on a cold day before the tires were warm.

At any rate, I have an S1000RR which I am currently unable to ride because of back issue. This is by far the best and safest bike that I have owned. And insanely quick - 95 mph in 1st. ABS, throttle and lean control and a rain mode that really makes the throttle lazy and lowers the power to (only) 150hp. Definitely not a beginner's bike, but with a few years previous experience completely tractable.

I ride a BMW HP4 and in terms of acceleration it makes my C63 feel broken, but no way I would have started on that bike. Start with something in the 600cc range and probably used because you will drop it at some point and you won't feel as bad if it already has a couple scratches. I started on a Ducati Monster.
