Blacking out tail lights
Help needed, I have a 2012 C63 coupe black and wanted to Blackout the tail lights.
What is the preferred method to do this and why? Any pictures??
I have searched and seen online. I dont like extremely dark tail lights. Maybe a tint will work better?
Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Easiest way would be to tint it with film, however my shop refused to do it for me cause they said the way the taillight was shaped would make it hard for the film to stick and stay on. You can always buy aftermarket lights that are blacked out. Look on ebay.

This is on the pre-facelift car and the tail light is not flat like yours I think. Plus it was at Icon Tinting, I know you're biased towards Shadow but they aren't bad. lol

Next best option would be a spray-tint that requires some sanding; which would obviously be permanent. Plastidip makes a smoke-spray, but we all know how some people feel about Plastidip. And it'll be more matte than glossy.
There are some aftermarket on eBay if you want to replace your whole pair.

I also have a 2012 Coupe, and I tinted my tail lights, take a look. I only tinted the outside though, not the middle bar, gives it a very cool look IMO..

Rather than blacking them, i suggest smoking them.
I don't think blacking out tailights look good on any car. Looks a bit immature. It also ruins the distinctive lines of the tailights. If you are going to do it, do it mildly. We usually have a painter do ours. Here are some samples off an M6 grand coupe we had smoked.

I have personally done a few vehicles myself ( buddies cars and such).
I agree with ^^^ smoking is a cleaner classier thing to do and it looks better as well.
You can smoke them yourself if you want to its not very difficult just need to have the patience and time to do it right.

Really can't go wrong with Icon or Shadow. I was actually a Tinting Illusions customer until Jared merged with Shadow so I followed him there. Still surprised Icon didn't want to do the tails tho.

Well I was originally booked in for gloss black vinyl wrap of the roof. We got talking and we decided to do the tail lights too but then he came back saying it won't stay for too long so not really worth it. Who knows if he just didn't want to spend extra time than what I was booked for cause of other appointments or genuinely felt like it wouldn't stay. I used to go to Jared only until he merged and then they got really busy. Icon fits me in with my schedule on short notice so I just started going to him. Both great people.

As stated earlier, I am not a fan of blacking out anything, however the work quality is there and it looks good.

Thanks, its not completely blacked out, dark cherry red kinda idk. If i get tired of the look. i'll go back to original. But right now i am satisfied i guess.

God.. for me its a rule, red callipers = red tail lights. The contrast between red and black colors in your car would look nicer than some parts red and some parts just black!
Most importantly you feel happy about what you see in your car.

I dont have red calipers. The side markers i will take care of them later if i decide to do the window trim. But i am not a huge fan of the "murdered" look and prefer some chrome on the car

Murdered out is too much for me too. That's for a HS honda. I think the 'smoked' tails and the side markers smoked is nice.
Mind you, i'm going for the batmobile (yellow calipers, yellow CF/kevlar inside & black errything else with chrome accents). Even though chrome is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 90's
