Peeps,

Really need your advice here and I'm one of you, not a troll, as you can see by my sig below.

In short, I'll be getting a new DD in the next 30 days and I'm TORN about getting another AMG, specifically a C63. This AMG will be my DD and I drive 100 miles daily too and from work in AZ (so it's hot), so is there any reason I SHOULDN'T go with a C63?

As far as I can tell the downsides would be:

• Poor gas mileage (don't really care)
• Small gas tank (17 gallons) means I'll have to fill up every 2-3 days (which would be kind of annoying)
• Cost to Mod (fairly high)
• Smallish inside. (I'm 6'2, 245 lbs, mostly muscle for what it's worth) so will it suck sitting in this car for 2.5 hours a day driving?
• Small backseats. While it's just me driving for work I'll occasionally take my team out to lunch
• Reliable? My E55 was NOT reliable, so how often will this be in the shop? (I'll get an extended warranty, but it became very annoying with my E55)

Cars I'm looking at are C63, CTS-V, GT500, Challenger/Charger SRT8.

I love AMG and want to get back in one (sold my E55 last year when the extended warranty ran out) so can you please give me some pro's vs. the above cons? Basically help me convince myself.

I do 100 miles a day in northern California. I'm 6'1" 215. the car is fine for DD. mine is a 2012 with just under 50k miles. you'll have a hard time with 4 normal size males in the car though. I get 200-250 miles on a tank if I drive reasonably, so the gas station ever other day gets old sometimes. Mine has had zero shop time other than maintenance every ~10k.

All the cars you mention above get ****ty gas millage and have small back seats.

Do NOT do a Challenger or GT500 if you are concerned with rear seat room. Both are way worse than the C63, especially in the headroom department. I daily my C63. I don't really see any additional downsides.

Thank guys. Yes backseat room is secondary and the only annoying thing I can see with the C63 is it's small gas tank and filling up every 2-3 days. Here in AZ it will be mostly freeway driving so that will help I suppose.

It's really coming down to a ~ '10/'11 C63 or a 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8.

• Small gas tank - not too bad neither
• Cost to Mod - don't need to mod really ... fast enough with good tq maybe a secondary delete around 300bux u be happy

• my 55 is decent ...I find the c63 more reliable but again it is under extended warranty and service at dealer. my 55 I go indy

maybe try a 2010 e63... I think its about the same price range used.

Reliability is high and C63 makes a great DD.

If your commute is mostly highway and you don't beat the *^&*&% out of while commuting, you should be able to do better then 20 mpg. That's just 2 fillups a week.

Back seat on the sedan is not big but I think it's larger than anything else on your list. Don't even think about the coupe unless your team includes Dopey, Happy, Sleepy, Grumpy . . .

Go for a '12 or '13 if your budget will allow. Better tranny, nicer interior, better handling.

Only thing I would add that other's haven't already said.

It is NOT smallish inside for just you. I am 6'4 and 250 lbs with a good mix of muscle and fat, can't really say im fat, cant really say im muscular, basically muscles with a belly that I am trying to lose.

Anyway, I find my C63 driver's seat to be one of the most comfortable places to be. I have never been itching to get out and stretch after a long drive. Can anyone sit behind me when I am in my preferred position? maybe a small child or a small girl with skinny legs.

Anyway, don't stress about it being too small, I have never felt that though I can't say the same for passengers, but I didn't get this car to make others happy.

I'm 240lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal. I find the interior small and cramped.

You'll hate the bolsters during long rides.

Thanks again folks. Yeah I'm 75% highway driving during my commute and backseat will rarely be used. I guess I'm down to is the C63 reliable (I'm hearing yes across the board) and will I fit being 6'2, sounds like yes but it will be a bit tight. The small gas tank is more of an annoyance as I pass 30+ gas stations during my commute across Phoenix. (It's not like I'm driving through empty parts of the state for example.)

And yes looking at the V as well, rented one for business about 2 years ago (black with black wheels and yellow calipers) and was very impressed. It was in hotlanta (Atlanta) and I had random people giving me the thumbs up and telling me, "Nice car" all the time. I felt very special in the car but it's a GM product so...Meh....

It's a great dd, but you should look into f80 m3s also.

I didn't buy my C63 as a DD but it turned into one because I just love driving it. The mpg is lame compared to my diesels but when you consider everything who cares? I'm 6'2 and 200lbs and last weekend I had myself my fiancé and three of her friends in the back. Granted the ladies weren't 6' tall but my seat didn't have to be tucked into the steering wheel to let them into the backseat.
I only have a little over 2k miles so I can't talk about reliability but so far so very good. The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy one sooner.

On those days that I am in town my 63 is my DD and the round trip to the office is 96 miles. I love every minute of it.

Totally! BTW the only reason I mentioned my height and weight was to see if you all thought I would fit. My intent was not to turn this into a, "30 minute abs" commercial..hehe.. (ie..would my glistening six pack fit between the seat bolsters...)

Jokes aside, appreciate the feedback peeps. I really miss my AMG and would be buying the C63 for the motor and to enjoy driving. I'll rarely have folks in the back.

Like most of you I just like cars, particularly fast cars. (get 7 car mags monthly, watch NASCAR religiously - don't laugh and just love going fast per the video in my sig. )

I've watched every single C63 review/testdrive on YouTube and will keep you all posted. At 45 years of age, with 3 young kids (all doing well) the car I'll buy in the next 30 days is for me to enjoy (we all work hard for our money and you only live once...), but trying to have a bit of practicality to boot if possible.

I predict the C63 will be a collector's car in 10 years as it was MB's biggest engine (aside from the V12, granted) in their smallest car. (C class) It was a car born of brilliant insanity whose likes we'll probably never see again.

im really interested on why you thought an e55 is unreliable? They are great cars, perhaps you had poor mechanics working on it. Id say the e55 engine and drive train are actually alot more reliable than the c63. The only downside on the e55 is having air suspension vs regular strut/shocks. If you just replace that stuff every 4-6yrs its good for another 4-6yrs.

The bolsters on the sedan are adjustable. The headrest on the coupe is adjustable. Not sure why the seats are different. In past threads bigger guys said they went with the sedan because of the adjustable bolsters.

I LOVE driving and with 100 miles daily round trip, it's one of the reason's I'm looking at the C63. With my commute, I spend 12.5 hours in a car just during 5 days of the week (2.5 hours a day, not counting weekends), so with slightly over half a day of (seat/drive) time a week, I want something I'll really enjoy, hence me considering the C63.

It makes a good daily driver. Feels like a rock solid product. I also really like the "size" of this car if that makes any sense. An E63 has better and nicer features which I would love to have (vented seats!!!!!!!!!!!) but the C63 is the perfect size for me. I think you should go test drive a few and pick one you like and that fits your budget. I say you should test a few because I tested 3 different ones and they all felt VERY different.

The V gets worse gas mileage. I had one for a year and was one of the big reasons i switched back to C63 P31. The V was getting around 18 on my commute. C63 gets 22-23 on my commute. All highway about 30 miles. V needs an extra gear for that top end, which it lacks.

Another thing you may want to consider would be an e63. Given your size, it may be more a more comfortable option if you are concerned about the bolsters and back seat space.

As a side note, I am 45 as well and also have three kids. Sometimes the c gets a little small. I still love it though.

You missed one downside, speeding tickets. If you get distracted for even a few moments, or worse have a sudden surge of adrenalin you will discover that you are going 90+ on the freeway.


If you are worried about back seat space, go with the sedan. I have not driven the Dodge or Ford products you mentioned, but the Dodges are much larger and will likely feel much larger and less nimble and sporty. The Ford will be far less comfort oriented. For a year I drove a CTS-V sedan and my wife drove (and still drives) a 2012 C63 sedan. The C63 feels much more on edge in normal driving. The CTS-V felt much more laid back but still had great handling and endless instant torque. The C63 does feel smaller than the CTS-V, but the V has a much larger back seat. Both are very nice, it just depends on your priorities. Also, my V had the manual transmission and 6th gear was quite tall and well suited for highway cruising. I got about 19 MPG with it, while even my wife who is a fairly conservative driver struggles to get 18 MPG with the C63.

For me this is the only downside.

The upside is looking forward to driving each way... Everyday. Helps me forget my stressful job.

As a Commuter though, you should be dialed in to where the police generally sit, what unmarked cars they drive and you better have the Waze app on your phone. Although I don't remember the miracle of Waze being discussed here... Perhaps it's regionally adopted. Saved my a$$ countless times.
