If you choose to follow the manual, it only says to change FROM C, S, S+ to M while stopped, so I read it that switching between the different automatic modes, or from M to any other mode while moving is fine. Just not switching from C, S, or S+ to M. But do whattcha want, by all means. Put cooking oil in the fuel tank. I personally don't switch to M unless stopped, but hey, I'm crazy like that and choose to believe the content of the manual might actually have been generated for a reason (let the "lawyers wrote the manual" debate begin!).

Could either of you explain in detail what you mean in detail? I drove an S65 W221 recently and changed from C to S while cruising at 50mph (or maybe it was to M, I can't recall) and right afterwards I noticed the car had gone into limp home mode. No flooring, no fanfare or clunks. I assumed something else was wrong with the car.

The manual says not to put it into Manual mode while driving... is there actually a connection b/n M mode while driving and limp home?

I still switch while moving all the time with no issue... What I meant was do not switch to manual and forget you did... If you go deep into redline in manual... Yeah... Problems possible...

What do you mean "dip the clutch?"

I think he means that in a manual transmission car rather than downshifting from 2nd to 1st at a stop light he just pushes clutch in and then stops.

Ah gotcha, thought he was referring to some magic voodoo thing that I didn't know about on our MCT.

I will switch to S from C, only after the motor has warmed up sufficiently. One of the reasons i love the AMG Performance Media option

I will normally do it at a stop, because i like feeling the little pulse sensation the car goes through. While it is slight, it is detectable and warns me that the car is coming to life.

I wish lol. Though the MCT is better than the prior gen for sure.

Same. When I am on the ///AMG screen I wait til it stops showing the temperature in blue. P31s in particular should wait til they are warmed up.

Yeeeeaaaahhhh.... [head down, hands in pockets, whistling, walking away...]

Me: "WTF? Why isn't it shifting and what are those red lights in the tach!?".

TC

ETA: I have selected between S+ and C while moving with no ill effects but I was loping along when I made the change. I would never "select" M while moving but I have hit the paddles which moves you into M with no ill effects. I've been moving ever so slightly while I selected S/S+ and got the clunk to first gear. I didn't like that so I make sure I am stopped completely before changing the mode now.
