Max tire width I can go on stock 18s??

So I have the stock 18" wheels on my 2008 C63, I was considering getting 245/40/18 tires for the front and 275/35/18 for the rear tires. Are the rears going to be too wide and surpass the fender line? Should I go 265/35/18 just to be safe for the rears? Will be lowered on coilovers soon. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Keep in mind, the wider you get, the further you get from the factory spec.

Going too wide will have negative impacts on the following: handling, ride comfort, grip (yes, this is possible even when going wider), etc.

I run 275/35/18 PSS in the rear with no issues. I am at stock height though.

Pardon my ignorance, but whats the point of going with wider rubber in the rear?

Since it's a RWD car, wider rubber in the rear = more traction/better grip (up to a point).

I think 265s are plenty for this car (stock). 275s on 18s = a great combo for those that are tuned/modified.

When you get beyond 275-section rears (on OEM 18s) with this car, funky things start happening.

Yea, Im looking to get better traction and grip on the rears.. These stock tires are too narrow as well.. Might just go 265s then, I dont want to mess with the sidewalls so I'll leave the front at 40 and the rears at 35...

you can do 275 on rear 18 OEM wheels with OEM suspension. That is what I had on mine before swapping for the CF10.
I would say even lowered you will have no problem with 275 and 18 stock wheels.
Since you will be lowered soon on coilovers this is even better to adjust your height to your liking.
So I would suggest you to get 275. Don't settle for 265.
