Am I Crazy?

Am I Crazy?
Hey guys, need a sanity check here.
Background:
Currently own an 11 c63 (leather, nav, HK)
Contemplating: 15 WRX STi limited
Yesterday I was driving by a Subaru dealer, decided to turn around and pull into to check out their 15 STI since I saw it a few days earlier on the showroom floor while driving by.
Long story short, I went for a test drive in the STI and freaking loved it! The sound, power delivery and handling really impressed me. It's the limited meaning it's got leather, sunroof, LED lights, heated seats, HK stereo. Car has 308hp
I need a sanity check from my fellow amg owners, I'm really thinking of trading my car in straight up for this.
Appreciate any feedback.
John

I was thinking about going back to an sit as well. I miss the fun stick shift, but it just felt like a cheap little jap car (which it is, and nothing wrong with that) so I'm also looking for something different and fun.

I was eyeing Wrx's for years and when it came time to buy I decided I wanted a little more luxury with my sports car. I don't think you're crazy it all depends on what you want, the wrx is a fun lil awd car that can take a beating. And the amg is pretty much a german luxury hot rod

I used to own '06 and compared to old ones New STi s are very nice. They look awesome and best handling STi yet. But from C63 to STi is, IMO, a downgrade. Good luck with your decision.

get the new WRX avoid the STI... The WRX got the brand new 2.0L engine with direct injection whereas the STI got the ****ty old 2.5L engine.

STi's are basically bombs on wheels these days... I've seen so many blow their motor at under 1000km on them.
Think about it this way; race built high output V8 vs dated fragile turbo flat 4...
The new WRX is actually better... The motor is current, and delivers torque faster thanks to it's twinscroll turbo.

Did they beef up the trans on the WRX tho? I know that STi 6 speed was literally bulletproof but WRX was pretty fragile.

308hp? Lol..wat? Dude you need to put the pedal to the floor in the AMG...If you think 308 HP is faster then the benz then you don't get into it very often do ya and the sound? Wat? Lol...Get some straight pipes, it sounds louder then a pack of harleys without wife pipes going down the road

they are two completely different cars, I don't think a direct comparison of the two would be fair. it will all go down to your personal preference. and no, you are not crazy; you just love cars.

OP may be getting bored of driving auto and wants to get back into a manual car.

Sound of flat engine is boring. I owned both a STi and a 996TT and no, flat engines don't really sound "good", to my ears at least.
308hp? That's the same as my Volvo XC60 T6. Come on man, get real. You want to trade cars and it's ok, but this is a major down grade.

I have a customer who calls his 997.1 a glorified lawnmower because of the exhaust note... Flat engines don't sound good.

I nearly pissed my self after seeing above. Yes a huge down grade and would not consider a change. You just need to paddle your car more often. I went from having two cars a vette with a stick and no regrets with C63 and paddles.

There's nothing wrong with looking around and seeing what other cars are out there. It doesn't matter what any of us think. What really matters is what makes you happy. If that STI is more fun to drive and you picture yourself happy with it for several years then go for it! One thing I would mention is when test driving another car, especially brand new ones, you get that excitement of trying something new. Take a step back and think it over: are you really into the STI? Or did you just got excited because you was trying something new, out of the ordinary?

Paddles were cool for about the first 2 minutes when I got my C63, now I just put it in sports mode and mash on accelerator.

Having a third pedal gets old fast to me, especially in cars with aggressive clutches.
I spend 90% of my driving in traffic, when I transported an E90 M3 6MT last week it was hell to me. The clutch is too grabby, and I was constantly trying to move an inch.

The whole manual vs paddles argument is stupid.
I had an Sti and blew two motors. Granted I had large turbos, but I had built motors. I just got tired of it. The best way to drive a wrx/sti is in stock form and if I could do it all over again I might do light suspension work and wheels... The car is GREAT this way in terms of usable power for the road. Take it auto-xing and you'll have a blast. However, at the end of the day it will end up being an overall downgrade and for those times your foot has a mind of it's own the AMG will just demolish the Sti in the thrill department.
