Secondary cats or resonator delete?
hey guys
Want to delete either secondary cats or the resonator.
What would do a greater sound improvement?
Do secondary cats also have a connection inside like the resonator- or are pipes straight through at this point?

Both will help free up the airflow hence improve your exhaust sound and performance. You might loose the amg signature bark!

Thought bark gets lost by adding x-pipe or Anything that crosses the exhaust Stream?
Straight or h-pipe should even get the bark stronger?

I'll comment since I've been playing around with this a lot myself on my own car.
Resonator delete only: IMO it's been the best overall sound. Not too loud. Still has the signature AMG grumble. Cold starts are nice and grumpy. You'll still get nice crackles on deceleration and downshifts sound great. I think for most everyone this is the way to go to get the extra sound you're looking for and what I do most for my clients.
Secondary Cat Delete (X-Pipe) and Resonator Delete: The sound is just way, way too smooth. Just don't do it unless you have long tube headers.
Secondary Cat Delete (H-Pipe) and Resonator Delete: This is the set up I currently have. I still hate it. Sound is way too smooth, almost similar to X-Pipe but a little more grumpy. The problem I think I found is we did the cross over pipe in too large of a diameter (matching the exhaust itself) and it has smoothed it out a bit too much.
Secondary Cat Delete (Straight Pipe) and Resonator Delete: This set up is straight up obnoxious. Some will like it, some (like myself) will absolutely hate it. It's loud. Standing behind the car and having it revved literally pierced my ears. Can I appreciate it? Oh yes, it sounds downright nasty. But daily driving the car it becomes old fast. And being a 30 yr old dude in a neighborhood full of 50+ somethings it's a bit embarrassing, even working for a performance shop.
Next for my car will be to try a smaller diameter H-Pipe too see if I can get a little of the grunt back and be a touch louder than just the resonator delete itself. If that doesn't accomplish it, the cats will go back in until I can do a full exhaust at some point.
Hope that helps!

Thank you so much dude.
That was exactly the answer I was looking for
So resonator delete it will be. Daily driver here as well- don't want to have to wear ear plugs

I actually just ordered mike's power pipe cat delete and resonator delete (both straight pipes) from mike and they shipped out yesterday! Stay tuned...
there's a member here running the same exact setup and he said this, "nah its not that loud with normal driving, but you'll be able to hear it more than stock. its not annoying or have any drone. its a good sound. you'll still be able to hear convos and music. mercedes did a good job keeping the cabin quiet. but when you put the windows down…..holy ****"

This engine really needs a balance pipe though, the stock resonator serves this purpose.
ofcoarse, if you want loud, and you want it to sound like the Mercedes SLS AMG F1 Safety cars... Headers are the solution!

I removed resonator and 2nd cats; straight piped the res and X-piped the 2nd cats.
With a tuned engine, it sounds great. You lose a bit of low end 'grumble' which some people associate with signature AMG sound, but as a freer-flowing exhaust it crackles and pops with backfires easier. I find it roars better too. Definitely louder.
I'm planning to add LTH later for what it's worth. We're driving AMGs and exhaust note is one of the key experiences.
I don't think you'll like it as much without a tuned engine, as stock sound was optimized with stock exhaust. I found it far too quiet stock.

I already have eurocharged v5 running.
Going for resonator delete new - guess with both changes I won't be on the road for too long before getting pulled over...

What do you think of this one?

Thanks for this thread since I have been looking for a solution as well. I previously ran mike's straight pipes along with V5 tune. although the sound was awesome, it was a bit too loud for my liking. Will only a resonator delete produce the same level of sound without sacrificing AMG bark?
