2014 C63, what should I pay?

Whats up everyone? So I currently own a 2014 E350 4matic sport edition. Its got 8500 miles. Just over a year old. I've been having an itch to potentially trade in for a c63. I've never driven one so anxious to do that. I made an appt. for tomorrow afternoon to go get my oil changed. I've kept in touch with my salesman over the last year and I saw yesterday that they still have a new 2014 63 for sale. Its listed at 75k. Im wondering your opinions on how flexible or how much negotiation I might be able to get. I live in the Washington DC area if that helps. Just in texting I mentioned to my salesman I'd need about 12k off to even think about it. My hope is that they'll want to get rid of it so they can continue bringing '15's in.

Another part of me is hoping that i'll go test drive it tomorrow and not be impressed!! lol My wife is going to kill me as she has no idea what im scheming!

Thoughts? Thanks!

You'll take the depreciation hit and the tax hit on yur e350, and pay extra even after the trade in to get into the c63 which will of course depreciate the moment you drive it off the lot... So from a financial sense it's a terrible idea

But you could die tomorrow (I hope you live to 100+ years old in good health) and you gotta live your life, so drive it and if you like it ... Get it, something tells me your wife will not kill you but perhaps put you in the doghouse for a few weeks

You should have looked harder at the e550

Do you want to go much much faster than you do now in the E350? Then you'll love the C63. I'd imagine you'll take a huge $$$ hit selling a 2014 and moving into a different 2014.

The E350 is bigger and has more cargo room, interior space, and you could make the argument it has a nicer interior as it is the newest generation.

The 2015 C63 will be the next generation and likely won't arrive until at least March so the dealer may not be in as much of a hurry as you think to unload it. Now once the new C63s arrive the old ones will get crazy discounts (if there are nay left by that point).

So I would say if you can get it below invoice that would be a decent deal, but I don't know as though you'll get 12K off. Never hurts to go in and negotiate who knows what deal you'll get.

I paid $58k for my E. Maybe I'm dreaming but I'm telling myself I can get 48-50k trade in. I keep hearing how much they want the trades. I only have 8k miles. Sticker on my car was 65k(I think) so if I can get 50 they can turn around and sell for $55k maybe it's stilla. Profitable deal for them. I haven't done much research. Just wishful thinking. I put 40k down on the E so I don't owe much. if I can get it to where I'm financing 30k I think i would do it.

There is no way you will get 12K off sticker and get 50K on your car for trade it doesn't work that way unfortunately. If you paid, 58K a year ago, you are looking at low 40s for your trade even with low miles. GL

Yea I dont doubt it. Wishful thinking I suppose. The good thing is that if it doesn't work out I still get to drive home in my E class(which I do love). Looking forward to test driving at least

The sticker on my 2014 was 78k and the I hustled for quite some time and got a significant discount. Get a good salesman who will beg the manager to cut the price but don't do anything or mention money until you see their offer in writing.

If you end up loving it you can always save some significant dough by going for a 2012 or 2013.

Care to say your final deal from the 78k sticker?

Yup, once you get in it you won't get out. Get them to give you a final price before mentioning your trade-in, too. But enjoy the ride - the test drive, however, won't allow you to come close to what the car's potential is...

Deal directly with the sales manager if you think you're going to pull the trigger, sales guy is watching his bottom line commission, sales manager is looking at several other variables ... Big ticket item... Deal with manager ... Best advice anyone gave me

You may not want to even drive the c63 of you don't think you'll agree on a deal.
The E will feel even more slow and boring after experiencing the c63!

You're not going to see double digit % discounts on the c63s, dealers know this engine is not coming back. I think 6% is a very good discount.

To get the best deal forget about trading it in. You're toast if the dealer knows you're just bored and can afford it.

Sell the E privately and tell the dealer the C will be a second car, if the discount is good enough.

What you tell your wife...you're on your own for that mate!

update***** so I took my E in for service today and spent some time with the c63. The sticker was 76k. The offer they gave me was 44k for my car and 69k for the amg. I think that was pretty fair. I still owe 15.6k on my car so that made the final financed amount right at about 40k. I wasn't in the market to finance that much and wasnt in the position to put a big chunk down. I told them I needed to be at 30k. I'd probably go with the deal at 35k. So I left. Hopefully we can work something out.

As far as the test drive. The power was unreal. I test drove in rush hour traffic for about 25 minutes. Only about 5-8 minutes spent on open highway. But wow so impressive. I definitely felt a little more snug in the C. The interior was 2 tone red and black leather. It's a beautiful beast. I want it. One hard thing to is the loss of room in the back seat as I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old. The good thing is that I have other vehicles for them!!

No offense, but you should not be looking at it this way.

Separate the two transactions:
1) What is the value of your E? Look at comps in your area, see what they are listed for on Autotrader for example. Then deduct $5-$10K for the dealer's margin. Add sales tax (you save the tax on the new car for the value of the trade). That's the value of your E.
So if they are listed for $50K on Autotrader, a dealer may pay $40K for it. $40K + tax is the value of your E, as a dealer trade.

2) Look at the discount that has been offered on the 507. Some people will say 10% or more. I'm not so sure… you have to take into account whether there was a trade involved or not, was freight/PDI paid separately (if so, that's a big part of the dealer's margin and you didn't really get 10%+ off).

One of the things dealers will do is give you a lower value of your trade and a bigger "discount" off the new car, as psychologically that makes it look better.

3) Lastly, look at how you are going to finance and pay for the above (2 - 1), and whether or not that makes sense to you.

DC, MD, and VA don't offer a credit on sales tax...you have to pay sales tax on the whole price of the vehicle...even if it's a lease. Lame.

Ok so hoping to get the wife on board today. We've settled on 46k for my trade and 68k for the amg. I think that's a pretty decent deal. Not the greatest financial move to make but it's not something I plan to do often. If also plan to keep this car for ye foreseeable future. Thoughts on the deal??

Oh yea, forgot to add one thing: If you get the wife's permission

Thoughts on the deal?

It's not a "steal" but I doubt you'll do better
However you rationalize this decision is your business ... I sense you have some hesitation otherwise you would have signed the dotted line and posted pics already

This will not end without a purchase

Back seat of a coupe seems like a perfect fit for a 2 and 5 month old - go for it!

Be sure you're getting the headlight upgrade - the standard lights suck and the cost of an upgrade will make you want to refinance.
