You sure there isn't a leak somewhere? Resonator should have any impact since it's not filtering anything anyways

Need more info...

Is the car on or off? / Are you running it in the garage?
Does the smell happen when you're sitting in traffic? Or when you're driving is there no smell?
Any leaks underneath your car when you move it from it's spot?

To be honest, I don't even "properly" let my car warm up I typically drive and go. Car is parked in my two car garage. The most noticeable time I smell it is When I start the car put in reverse give gas to leave crazy smell comes into the cabin and when I park Ill go inside come out to grab a soda from garage whole garage smells so the car is not idling in garage at all

^ Yea, I turn the key and throw it in drive as well...

However, it sounds like it may be a leak but it would be strange and if you don't see anything on the ground idk...

Is it something new you've noticed or has this always been the case and you're just asking now?

Sorry for the questions and being vague, but it can be many things

couple weeks or so, now asking trying to refresh my memory and im thinking it was going on before I did the Resonator delete so Im going to assume it has nothing to do with that but I'm thinking the smell is for sure coming from exhaust not leaking on ground. Is that possible?

Yes, as others have mentioned it can be your cats. Just because they are there doesn't mean they are functioning properly. In other words, your cats could potentially be on their way out as well.

A res delete isn't going to create this smell because it is after all the cats not to mention is there for noise pollution, not emissions.

All in all, no CELs on and the car running fine I wouldn't worry too much about it. Especially if you aren't noticing anything while driving and all that is really happening is smelling it when you start the car. Is it getting cooler in the mornings where you are? You're in Cali so I'm sure it isn't as bad as my NY mornings now, but since it did cool off here when I start the car I get a louder snap and higher idle at first. Leads to more smells.

Your secondary cats can be removed potentially. You just require your primaries in place to pass your E-tests.

Other then that it could be a leak. How many miles on the car?

I paid for an extended warranty so might as well take it on and if in the event it is cats, might as well have the replace it and cruise around in a new E350 no?

I dont know if this matters BUT when I purchased the car the 02 sensors were turned off (headers were on the car I guess), and thats why I got the Kleemann tune, Cory killed two birds with one stone turn on the o2s and tuned the ecu

Are you the type that fills to the absolute top, i.e., gives the gas pump those extra few shots after the auto-shutoff? That'd do it...

^ But if it goes a penny over you gotta fill it up more... However, when you nail the $xx.00 first try it doesn't even matter how bad your day was to that point because nothing can bring you down after that.

It really does sound like when I had my cats deleted however if you are sure they are in place it could be a leak pre cat or the other thing it could be that the previous owner had gone to a 200cell high flow or even a 100cell cats which would account for the smell with the cats still inn.

I'm sure sure I would be able to tell by the sound if they were not there or changed haha.

I just bearly did the resonator delete before was pretty quiet.

If you have a raw fuel smell in your garage then it may be a leak in the fuel vapor recovery system.
