Tell me I'm crazy

I've been considering dropping the 63 for a newish BMW M5 when summer comes around. I am a huge BMW fan boy originally, and I absolutely love the 4.4TT, especially because we can tune them to 750hp with ease! The better fuel economy, and increased vehicle size is a plus too, as well as the ability to run big boy sized tires (I believe OEM fits a 325 rear!).

But, I can't help but think I would miss the pure rage the M156 extrudes. The 63 certainly is miles behind the M5 when it comes to creature comforts (obviously as its C class vs 5 series), but it seems much more alive in the bedroom. I would be lying if I didn't say I love when I rev up the 63 and everyone within a city block turns and scowls at me!

Has anyone here had experience with the F10 M5? I've worked on them, driven them short distances, but I've never gotten to have "fun" in one. I was very disappointed with my E92 M3 ZCP, and I don't want to repeat that incident (put 1100km on it, then sold it and took a 6K hit...). I know the M5 has an absolutely garbage exhaust note, but I'm sure a set of downpipes and a full akrapovic exhaust would remedy that.

I've had about 12,000km on my 63 so far, and I have loved every second of it, but I really don't love hitting up the gas station 2 times a week at $80 a pop!

Sorry if I'm just ranting, but there's not really a AMG crowd around here to bounce opinions off of, and of coarse all the BMW guys will tell me my car is garbage.

M5's historically always have (Any non 3 series bmw seems to die price wise, my boss has a 2013 750i M sport and it was 120 new, it's maybe 70 now). As soon as the F10 came out the E60's hit rock bottom. My buddy picked one up for 25K canadian (and a clean E39 M5 still garners 20K here).

Here a 2011 M5 fully loaded low miles is 80-90K still. But that's canadian money. I can probably get 60 for my C63, so paying 20-30 for a nice M5 doesn't seem bad.

I noticed bmw seems to be cheaper in the US too. At SEMA BMW had a brand new M4, fully loaded with the carbon fibre aero kit and it was 65K!!! Here that car would be 100+ (my M3 was loaded the same way with the individual package and it was 107)!

Wow, ive been contemplating this exact decision for a couple of months. Found someone that would trade me car for car, 2013 f10 m5 white exterior black interior. It's stock and my c63 is heavily modified. Been through so much with this car idk if I could trade it anytime soon. The f10 is a wonderful car, so is the c63. Both are completely different and unique in their own ways.

That's one hell of a trade! I'd trade my car straight for an M5 in a heart beat!

In a slave to technology and comfort, and considering even with the seat maxed out my head hits the roof in my C63, the M5 is winning 100 fold on that.

I'm looking to do alpine white exterior, and coral red interior.

This and that.
I drove my uncle's brand new 2014 M5 a few months ago and I just recall being thoroughly unimpressed with it. It didn't feel brute, menacing and powerful like the C63 does when you put the pedal down. Of course M5 is faster and would take out the C63 no problem, but it just didn't pack that feeling as far as the driving experience was concerned. That being said, would I do it? Probably but just because I get bored with cars quick and feel like changing often.

As far as sound is concerned. Do some Youtube searches for the Nurburgring M5 Ring Taxis. They sound great blasting around. I know they have some sort of Akrapovic system from the exhaust tips, but can't tell you if it is axle-back, cat-back, or if they've done anything to the headers.

Can give you a goal to work to. Build your own Nurburgring Taxi to drive around Calgary!

You're unhappy with how thirsty your C63 is, so you're contemplating a V10 M5?

That's classic "jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire".

Your thinking of the E60 M5. Toxic is talking about the F Series M5 Which is a TT V8.

As for the switch, the C63 has more of a visceral feeling, I have never driven the M5 But my father has its close cousin (550), the immediate feeling I got was "this thing feels like a boat". Not a bad thing if your into it. But i prefer the more nimble feeling of the C63.

Power / Features aside, both are amazing machines. You really can't go wrong with either. I like the M5 A lot, but at this point in my life the car is just too big for my liking.

Its funny, we have had 5 series in our family ever since the E39, had 2 E60's and now the F10. The E60 felt very tight and connected to the road. The jump into it from he E39 wasn't so bad. But from the E60 to the F10, the car felt loads heavier and less connected to the road. I guess electric steering and a larger more refined chassis would do that.

Your in a good dilema,

good luck with your choices!

With a little tuning a S63tu can make insane pull, the problem is from factory the boost is somewhat low (we tune a lot of X5M's which have a slightly older version of the S63, the pull is intense).

And yes the V10 was last generation. I very much disliked that engine, it sounds like crap no matter what you do to it (on exhaust they seem to sound like a wookie in an echoey room).

As for the comment earlier about akrapovic, they are BMW's new official partner for Motorsport.

Hard to really compare m5 with c63 totally different cars. Always liked the m5 but theyre just too big for me i like the nimble c

You sould look into e63 for more room, and for twin turbo the new c63 is around the bend.
Buddy has been shopping for a slightly used m5 and the f10 prices are still insane to me compared to e60

I looked into the E63 AMG S, it's about 120-140 for the one I want, which is a bit much for me right now.

I looked at the new C, but I'd like to move up a class (E/5 series). I'm looking for more comfortable power.

OT but did you ever do any video of the headers with the Akra mufflers on?
Thinking about it but just too expensive to do unless I really think I will enjoy it much more than the stock resonators and mufflers. I have MBH with catted mids and x-pipe. To be honest it sounds great in the car but I am not sure what it sounds like outside. Thanks.

Sorry can't help you with the M5 as I have never been in or seen one. Personally I prefer the C over the E for the size, handling and raw driving experience. Have fun making up your mind and I am sure you cannot go terribly wrong.

My friend took a few videos, but I think gopro got stolen unfortunately. The person I sold them to is on here and has a similar setup, I'll ask him to shoot one.

There's also one on our shops facebook page (ECUProgram) but it's heavily distorted.

The akra had an amazingly unique sound. It was very bassy, and mean. But it lost the trademark AMG rasp and backfires, and was too quiet for my liking.

I'd be buying an M6 gran coupe (my favourite car) if I could afford it, but they are an easy 160K, and finding a used one is impossible here.

If I didn't have to drive in winter I would be looking at the new AMG GT, it's so gorgeous.

The Audi S6 is a nice mid-size car
imho the best looking
The best interior
The best tech
Stock is fast, tuned is very fast
And quattro is a real world advantage

I listened to the vid on the shop's facebook page and it is very distorted. The take off at the end was better but not enough to base a decision on. The deep sound is unique and might sound better to onlookers but I would not want to lose the backfires and C63 character entirely...LOL

Thanks.

I hate Audi so much... Had two A4's and a 2014 S4... I put 5000km on it then sold it.

Audi blends in with the crowd too much. You couldn't tell an S car out unless you know what to look for.

Titanium package is a bit different, you're thinking of the black optics package. Which removes the trademark aluminium mirror covers.

Yeah, it was filmed on a Samsung S3, it was too deep for the mic to handle. Akrapovic in general is super deep, as you probably heard on the X5M video we have.

We have a video of meistershaft too, I think vivid actually used it on their post here haha.

I found no one really noticed the akrapovic, they kind of just shrugged it off as another high end car (Calgary is loaded with nice cars), but with headers on stock mufflers even the guys in supercars stare in envy.

I remember pulling with a Gallardo and the guy was so intoxicated by the sound, he said to me at the light "I've never heard a V6 sound so good" I couldn't stop laughing.

Same for a 445 vs m4
But car guys know
An S6 will surprise many hipo cars lkke an M, AMG. Etc
It's a sleeper that can run 12 stock and better tuned

With 20 wheels, the right color and black optics package that car looks like a mil $ going down the road
The led ltg package looks amazing

CLK63 Black Series
I have a CLK63 and an F10 M5, which is my daily driver. Both are totally different cars. I picked up the M5 last year in spring at Munich/Euro delivery and drove it for 3 weeks throughout Germany, Austria and Italy. Had her on every road there is, from the Autobahn to country roads to mountain passes. Because of it's long wheel base it's very stable on top speed runs, but not agile/nimble in tight corners. Plenty of mechanical grip, predictable at the limit, but feels big. Very easy and effortless to drive at high speeds.

I drive the M5 with TC off, steering, engine, transmission in Sport+ ... in all conditions, even rain. Had it programmed into one of the M buttons on the steering wheel when I took delivery in Munich. It makes the car more lively/fun to drive. This way I have all the power all the time without the electronics interfering. The S63tu hangs beautifully on the throttle, much like a naturally aspirated engine, has 502 lb ft from 1500 - 5750 and pulls hard all the way to 7200. Great DCT which is very responsive and lightning quick. All the creature comforts like full leather, heated/ventilated/massage seats, top view/front view/rear view cameras, HUD, lane assist, blind spot assist, soft close doors, suspension/steering/ transmission can all be adjusted on the fly, etc ...

The M5 is a compromise between performance and luxury .... if you can live with that, it's a great car. If you want something smaller, lighter, more nimble ... you'll be disappointed.

the S6 is good if you want a nice dose of understeer in everything you do.

Quattro does a nice job of minimizing that
My RS4 had decent turn in and cornered nicely unless at the limit
Since it is a street car it was not an issue
It also has a torque vectoring diff that helps rotate
Again, a street car, a 4200 lb 5 passenger luxury car
Most cars are set-up for understeer, look at the tire sizes
Again, moot, it is a street car whose avg speed is 40 mph
Iirc it gets around the ring as fast as a base c63

The dct is as good or better than anything in a c63
It's roomier, rides better and retains value better

AMG did a nice job on the awd
They actually take from the rear with a driveshaft to a diff
Helps wt dist
Audi takes the 1/2 axles from a combo diff/tranny so the whole engine is in front of the front axle line
Wt distaudi 57/43
AMG 54/46
Not a huge difference awd vs rwd
Bet the awd e63 is very close to the s6
C63 is 54/46 or 55/45 depending on source

That was an awesome read, thanks!

Since I work for a bmw tuning shop it's very easy for me to get coding/tuning done to make the car more sporty.

As far as it goes I'm after a comfortable sport sedan that I can crawl around town with and take friends/girlfriend out on trips in. The c63 is great for this stuff, but when it costs me $300 to drive to radium that's no fun.

Does yours have the night vision camera? Trying to see if that's worth it.

This is my old S4:

Tell me I'm crazy-nwnkdt2.jpg

It would really **** me off when people always said "oh that's a nice A4, why didn't you get an S?"

With the AMG people say "that's a sick merc dude, it's AMG right?"

Audis are just such a generic car shape... Nothing except the front grill really makes them pop. They have no significant body lines.
