Question re button next to pass. seat heater button
What is the button next to the passenger seat heater button for? I don't think my car has this package and I'm curious. It looks like maybe the silencer for the parking alarm?
Also, what is the large rectangular-ish thingy on the turn signal stalk?

Either way I think answers were given above.
Yes or you can swap the steering column cover as well on 12 and older. Did this on my 09 sedan when I installed the facelift steering wheel.

Very strange to ask these questions here when you could have just asked your salesmen when getting delivery?

What is involved in this swap? I'd like to swap the config on my 12 E550.

Just so I'm clear going forward, should I refrain from asking any question here that a car salesman could answer? I don't want to risk bad form and waste anyone's 12 seconds.

Don't mind abcut, he probably missed his morning coffee.
Typically before I post I simply just google what I'm looking for. Also, I know it is a pain, but if you have an owners manual it is more than likely you'll find what you're looking for there as long as it pertains to OEM type information.
Otherwise, just post up whatever and deal with those of us who have been here a while and have to say "this has been said 10,000 times" or "learn your car fool" just so we feel better. Ha, all in all it is in good fun and don't take the jabs too personally.

True. And what's even stranger is the fact that you leave no room for the possibility that I bought the car from a private party who knew less about it than I do.

But more seriously seeing you are a member since 09 I would assume you are not new to MB. Therefore these would have been easy guess.
Unless thsi is your first MB and in this case that would be understandable.
2- Remove airbag
3- Unbolt steering wheel
4- Remove the top cover of the column and wiring harness
5- Replace with the new cover and reconnect harness
6- Bolt the steering wheel back
7- Replace airbag
8- Reconnect battery
and you should be good to go
