Receiving texts and accessing internet...
Is there a 101 crash course on here somewhere that tells me how I can display texts and access the internet in my US 2014 C63 507? The manual is not only thoroughly confusing, but it's obviously written for many models and different countries. Is there some APP that I'm supposed to download to my phone?

First make sure your phone is set to send messages and alerts via bluetooth. On iPhone go to the bluetooth menu in settings and and hit the "i" button for the MBBluetooth and make sure the show notifications in on.
Second make sure Notifications for messages are allowed (on iphone its in settings - notifications - messages), I think setting alert style to alerts might be necessary too.
Internet I played with for 5 min and quit so I'm not sure.

SMSes come via Bluetooth from your phone. You can see them in the phone menu on your in-car display. Works great (I have an Android), but does not allow you to read them when driving. The screen only shows that there is a message, from whom and the first couple words. It shows the entire SMS when at a standstill.
Internet: The built in modem is a 3G, so while you can access MB Apps via the built in setup (Internet Menu on in-car display), the speed is so slow, that it is not practical.
Use your phone for online map search and the like.

Distracted Drivers
Angus McKenzie editorial in Feb '15 issue of Motor Trend:
Distracted Drivers and the Fundamental Disconnect in the Auto Business - The Big Picture
"Oh, wow! This head-up display thing is really cool!" I was sitting in the back seat as a savvy thirtysomething woman guided a Cadillac Escalade through the leafy, money-scented back streets of Bel-Air, California. The woman turned to the Cadillac specialist riding shotgun in the front passenger seat: "It would be great if I could read my emails on this."
I couldn't help it. I cleared my throat and said, simply: "Wouldn't it be better if we concentrated on actually driving instead of reading emails?" The woman laughed. "I guess so." We cruised past another $30 million mansion. "Maybe the car could read the emails out to me," she said suddenly. "And I could dictate the answers back." I groaned inwardly . . .

Mine works if I'm not in motion.
Compared to a 4G smart phone the car's 3G internet connection and interface is terribly painful.
What is nice is the bluetooth streaming of my phone's audio. With apps like Pandora and Iheart I really do not see how Sirius radio stays in business.
(unless you don't have good cell coverage)
With the iPhone's Siri you can even compose texts or email via voice command and have emails and texts read to you, all through the Bluetooth connection and broadcasted over the car's audio.

For those who are interested, here are some things on my (wish) list for iPhone integration with 2015 S550:
1. Figure out if my "Splitview" function can work to make incoming text messages viewable only for the driver.
2. Figure out if I can make a command to "push the home button" on the iPhone somehow by either using a Mercedes voice command, or maybe some other button - not really sure if I will succeed. For sure I could do it with the "Hey Siri" voice command "IF" the iPhone is plugged into power, but for typical city driving I don't really want to bother much with plugging in the iPhone all the time - I prefer to just keep the iPhone wherever.
3. Figure out if I can send or reply to incoming text messages by using the Mercedes voice - I need to be able to say something like "Tell Bob, I am on my way", like how Siri does it. If Mercedes can't do it as well, then I'd just prefer to use Siri, but I want to give Mercedes a chance because I am liking the beautiful dashboard displays and the overall integration.
4. Figure out if I can get the S550 to connect to the internet through my iPhone "Personal Hotspot" function and/or my home wifi lan. I have a Canadian configured S550 (Canadian cars are a bit different as I understand it), and it seems like the ability to get the S550 on the internet is being obfuscated by a lot of (meaningless) mumbo jumbo (just my first impression of getting the Merc on the net).
