Cold start
Hi guys, quick question.
Lately I have noticed that the classic cold start rumble is gone. Car used to have such wonderful growl at start accompanied by rpm around 1500. This lasted for a few seconds and the rpm returned to normal. Lately I have noticed that it is gone. Today I started the car after a week of non driving. Immediately settled to a little over 500 rpm and that famous cold start sound just not there. Any suggestions as to what is going on? I like to have it back.
Thanks

Has the temperature changed any since when you first started to notice, (winter to summer)? Starting it in colder weather could lead to a deeper growl than starting it in slightly warmer conditions.

Start the car with the oil temp displayed. If it's over 90F, cold start won't be there. For example if you drove late the night before and started it early rhe next morning, the oil might not have cooled enough to invoke cold start logic.

Have not started the car for several days, so it was cold...very cold. It sits in an unheated garage and the temperature this morning here in Charlotte NC was way below 32. It behaves as if it was a warm engine start. It has been doing this for a month or so but really thought it was ll in my head. This morning really settled it that it is not.

One day I started my car in around -20C. The car was sitting outside for 3 days of non driving. The engine was shaking and even I could feel the car was shaken (not slightly as normally I can feel) too.
Is this normal? It never happens again since then.

That's just the car wagging it's tail in eagerness for the journey ahead! Completely normal though, the windchill here yesterday was -25F (-32C) and the car was started for the first time this week....the noise that came out sounded like a jet engine from hell.

Rumble on cold start is unpredictable in my opinion, mine lives in a unheated garage, and sometimes if growls after driving the previous day or not. Cold start after 3 weeks of non-driving the car was not happy - they don't like to be standing, but settle down, just let them sit and run for a bit IMHO.

This is mine every day. That parkade is 25 degrees C. Oddly, when I had my akrapovic exhaust, it only did this about 20% of the time (and vibrated the entire parkade...).
