235/19 F and 265/19 R on the same 19" multispokes, probably get a second set of wheels this year though to save changing over and rims !


As we don't get much snow, and when we do its nothing like most of the lads here !!, these are great all rounder winter I've found, more grippy in the dry and wet once it gets below 10, and added bonus if we do get a random dumping you'll still be able to get around

My coupe has been a champ so far in this NYC winter. I'm running blizzaks and the car hasn't had a single issue so far.

Probably the worst high output car I've driven in winter, but this is caused by the extreme low end torque. Mine was on studs and it was still very hard to drive it without the odd slide/tire spin. My M3 is a fair bit better, and it has 275 blizzaks in the back.

But, name me one high output RWD that doesn't have these problems. You cant.

Don't be shy about RWD+power in the winter.
+1 in Toronto w/ LSD & winter rubber. Hasn't left me stranded yet. In the process you'll also learn how to be gentle on the loud pedal, correct oversteer and finally drift the car like a pro, at speeds nearing 15 km/h.

FWIV, getting it going on a steep-ish uphill can be somewhat challenging, but as I said, at the end of the day it will make you a better driver and you'll have a lot of fun it the process.

Until last winter when trying to get up a rather steep 30-meter-long driveway from a dead stop, I did not think it was actually possible to literally burn rubber in a foot of semi-packed snow with ice underneath, but I proved myself wrong. The rears were SMOKING and you could smell the burnt rubber by the time I managed to get the car to the top (I also lost about half the tread on the rears in the process, which significantly shotened their life but it was late in the winter anyway).

Had to go back out a couple of hours later and it was still dumping snow by the bucketloads. When I got back, I asked a couple of other poor souls caught up in the blizzard if they would mind helping me out. They thought I meant "give me a push", but insted I just popped the trunk open and just asked them to sit on it with their legs hanging out over the rear bumper, which they happily did. This time I made it up with almost no drama at all, but I did give it a blip or three with the TC off. Afterwards they kept asking me if I could please give them another ride again.


P.S. I did buy three 40 kg bags of sand that I could put in as ballast if needed, but so far have not had to use them at all. Having a full tank of gas and lowering the tire pressures somewhat (I was running the snows a bit high) is apparently enough to get you out of anythign even with all that tourque.

I thought about the sandbags in the trunk but the thought of potential flying projectiles in the event of an accident is a huge deterrent.

On days that you'd actually need the sandbags, chances are you're not going to be doing more than 40 km/h at the most, so it really wouldn't be an issue.

Sandbags tend to confuse the computer (added weight far beyond the allowance the ECU awards), and can lead to "fun" results.
