Next Car? - Cayman GT4

So you'd rather buy a turbo over a G for the same price?
Forget the G, just remember your buying a VW at the end of the day. And if you were ponying up for a gt3 or turbo, you'd have a car that looks exactly like it for 60k. IE- regular carrera's, caymans etc. That imo, is a huge turnoff.
I live in south florida, i'm well aware of porsche and the exotics market. People will surely buy what they want, and i understand that, but for getting my money's worth, my money won't be given to an overpriced P-car.

All I know is I've owned a brand new c63 coupe for 2 years. I just recently test drove a 2014 cayman S. I was blown away. The sound, the handling, the response of the engine, the transmission, build quality....all better than the c63. The cayman S, GTS, gt4 are such exciting cars. Also a better daily driver and uses less gas. C63 advantages: Slightly more pull, and more room. If I could turn back time....

Used to be a porsche-hater too, and then I sat in my friend's 2005 911 turbo and was blown away. Even in such an old model, the car was ridiculously fast and agile. Handling felt like I was in a go-kart.
All this talk about the porsche premium you have to pay is a bit ridiculous on a mercedes AMG forum haha. Most of us who bought our cars fully-loaded ended up paying roughly 90k as well. Not hating, I love my car to death, but if you want a porsche your gonna have to pay for one, not many comparisons on the car market.

C63 AMG 507 Edition
I'm constantly surprised by the emotional attachment/detachment that people get to brands. I prefer to look at each model on its merits.
I love my current C63, but the new model looks like a disappointment. Older model M3s (E46) were awesome, recent gens, not so great. My previous car was the B7 RS4 which I think was a classic, but with the exception of the V10 R8, nothing much that Audi does currently is of much interest.
To me this GT4 is shaping up as another classic.
I would suggest to anyone shooting it down that you get behind the wheel of any of the current Cayman's and give it a good go. The handling is just sublime. When I bought my Cayman S, I drove it back to back with various 911s and I kept coming back to the Cayman - it just feels so much better to drive. Put a decent engine in - which they finally have with the GT4, and I think you have an amazing car.

I'm actually debating a couple things as I plan on heading back to the States next August. They are:
1. Keep 507
2. Sell 507, get '14 E63
3. Sell 507, get '08 Cayman S and '15 Lexus Ct 200h
Haven't gotten a chance to drive the Cayman S as the current owner says it has never seen snow. I checked it out 2 Saturdays back and it is in great condition for an 08 with 39k miles.
So many choices, but spurred on by the fact I will have a 100 mile/2 hr drive across Virgina 2-4 times per week for the next three years when I get back. Too bad a new GT4 isn't an option for me.

But I am pretty sure it is stupid expensive for what you get. That always irritated me about Porsche - that they charge such a premium for what the product is actually worth. Check the options sheet for any Porsche and my blood boils.[/QUOTE]
Exactly right, I am online window shopping a Panamera Turbo S as my next car after C63. They do get ridiculous in options cost and EVERYTHING is an option $$$. I have a 2011 Cayenne S, purchased used so we didn't take the brunt of the new car cost. I "optioned" it my way.

Panamera huh? I just can't get used to 4 door Porsche's
That cayman gts4 does look good though, I never cared for the looks of the previous caymans but I'd like to end up with a 911 turbo eventually but the second a turbo is added to those the price sky rockets

Buy two!
I would definitely get behind the wheel of that 08 Cayman before you buy. I had an 06 Cayman S which was great, but coming from the C63 I know it would feel undercooked now. The GT4 is still a step down in power, but IMO is still in the sweet spot for power/torque/car weight on the road.

Hence the notion that if you have $160K to spend, do you buy a brand new 911 Turbo S, or a used Gallardo?
Also remember, lots of us have / had C63 Coupes, so a 2-door Cayman vs a 2-door C63 isn't that much of a stretch.
I've always been a 911 fan, but understood that the Cayman is a far better driver's car, despite the lack of power. The GT4 fixes the one big downside of the Cayman vs the regular 911. Had a Boxster S for awhile...handled brilliantly, but you had to rev the **** out of it to get any sense of speed going.
I agree that Porsche option pricing is insane though....I spent some time "building" one at the Porsche dealership yesterday....$18,000 in options to get it configured the way I wanted (and no heated seats).
I'll probably wait for the Cayman GT4 to come down in price (ie, buy used). For what I had it configured out to be, I can buy a 4 year old 911 Turbo with a moderately usable backseat and 120 more HP....and probably a more suitable daily driver.
I do think it will be a classic through. I'm still kicking myself for not buying a 993 Turbo when I had the chance....they're increasing in price now.

Fair enough my friend, fair enough. As I've said, Porsche almost went bankrupt in the early 90's and the Porsche we know today is the way it is because of it. They actually hired Toyota to show them how to build cars more efficiently and thus profitably. And I've read that Porsche has the highest profit margin of any manufacturer. If you want to know what a Porsche was like before this, drive an air-cooled 911. The build quality is fantastic.

All this Porsche talk is bringing back memories.
Porsche died for me when they made the last air-cooled turbo motor (although the PDK is bringing me back to love 911s again).
I'd sell my house and live in a shack for a mint 965.

MBWorld Fanatic!
^ The PDK plus the launch control that can take a serious beating.
Everyone gets all up in arms about air vs water cooled. At the end of the day they all perform quite well. My biggest beef with my 996 was the interior was a little, cheap? Or I just didn't like the layout and such. But I didn't buy that car for the interior.

If i knew a year ago or two the price of the 993 would be skyrocketing like it is I would have bought one then....stupid me assumed they'd be in that range a while

I can certainly see myself getting this car. I'm glad they're putting in a manual. However, I would prefer a DCT/PDK at this point though.
