A Valentine's Gift from a thief

I can't stand thieves.
The wife came back to the car after her shift to this. The dumbest thief probably thought there was a good valentines gift in the bag.
There was a gift wrapped in a gift bag and 4 boxes of cookies.
The bag consisted of baby wipes, a baby wipe warmer, and bed sheeting for a crib. It was a gift for a baby shower.

Stupid thing is it happened in a parking garage at a clinic. Her coworker also got her car broken into but I'm not sure what was taken from her car.

I'm just tired of selfish idiots who lost their minds.
As far as I can tell, the seats weren't cut from the glass. But it still pisses me off.

I hope none of you have to experience this.

That sucks, sorry to hear. Thieves are amongst us, and in higher numbers with the crappy economy. I never leave anything visible in the car. All shopping bags and personal bags go in the trunk, and I lock it out with the valet key (I know they can still pry it open, but why make it easy). Very valuable things like laptops (mostly due to the information it contains) stay on my person.

It's unfortunate. Sometimes you wonder why even put cameras when you won't get a visual.
The parking garage only has a camera in the entrance/exit.
Well what's the point of that?

That camera is there to protect the garage (monitoring payments).

Sorry to hear it man, twice I have come out to one of my cars and found I was side-swiped parking on the street and they drove away, or hit me head on pulling into the spot that was in front of me. It's BS, both times I wasn't away from the car for more than 30 minutes. It's unacceptable how people don't take responsibilities for their actions these days. This is even worse, as it was a deliberate act from cowardly scum.

this may sound draconian, but I'm for taking a ball-peen hammer to the hands of thieves like this. Just one good whack, and I'm pretty darn sure you'd have no repeat offenders. That, or a bat to the gonads.

That sucks! But lesson learned for not leaving anything visible in your car next time. GL with the repair.

Sorry to see that. I know I would be livid.

Good advice to store anything you leave in the car out of sight of prying eyes.

She usually does put her stuff away in the trunk. But this time, she said she didn't want the cookies to fly around in the trunk.
I guess its not worth it. Still should put everything in the trunk.

I deeply regret what happened.
It seems that this happens in any city and country.
I hope your insurance covers damage, but the courage, who takes away.

If you carry a lot of stuff in the car it might be worth it to get a cargo box or net or something to keep stuff from flying around in the trunk.

Yikes... Sorry to hear man. Someone broke into the parkade at my condo recently and broke into all the medium-low end cars, but left the high end stuff (my old C63, a BMW 750i, and an Audi S6). It was weird...

The insurance does cover it. I called and asked. But I just bought a new window from Mercedes at $163 after tax which is less than my deductible. I'm going to replace it myself. This way it's going to run cheaper for me and insurance doesn't have to file a claim.

It's funny because there is also a ton of cars in there that had valuable electronics that are worth a lot more than what they had taken. There is also a doctor parking not far from where the c63 was parked that had higher end cars that weren't touched. One guy drives a 2014 911 turbo s. There is a new a7 s-line and so forth.

Same thing happened to me in my building. I guess they don't want to mess with German alarm systems?

that sucks that happened. This is why i never lock any of car doors. I never leave anything in my cars thats worth more than the pain in the *** of a broken window.

My thought is they think high-end car owners are much more likely to pursue them. That and even when you break the glass on most euro's, you still can't unlock the doors without a key (BMW at least).

We have cameras too, they $*%&in waved at them.

That sucks! Be glad it was just the glass. They couldn't break mine in, so they ended up prying it out and damaged the B-Pillar in the process, and scratched the wrap on the drivers door, which I still have yet to re-do. The worst part was they took my bag with my brand new Surface Pro 3 and a few other things. $1500 worth of stuff and insurance only pays out $200 for personal property.

It's unfortunate that people feel like this is the way to get what they want.

Sucks that happened to your family. Smart way to take care of it.

I think it's just a larger and more lucrative market. I think the most stolen cars are like Hondas and Toyotas, and so I'm sure there's also a market for stolen parts for these cars. Less so for rarer cars like ours. I still NEVER leave anything visible in the car itself. If they see anything inside, even something stupid like an empty bag, it can be all the incentive the morons need to do some massive damage.
