Cold start blues...
In the last two days...I've noticed cold starts were mute compared to normal cold start ups. Temp has been about 45 and engine oil temp at 50. On start up I am getting this constant ticking sound....from drivers side.
Normal idle is 1300-1400 for a few seconds then goes down to 700. Now it's idling at 1000 and a bit lumpy. Plus the clicking sound.
I am thinking either I have a busted relay (causing the clicks) or secondary air pump failure? Or both? Heavy gas smell from exhaust. No cel at all.
Thoughts? Also is the relay the green one in the fuse box?

Honestly, cold starts in CA suck in general. If you want an amazing cold start, like viagra for your 6.3, go to a Midwest or East coast state....where the cold start was originally born...

OP,
Does that ticking sound goes away? Is it the same flapping sound you are talking about in your misfire thread?
I only know 2 types of ticking on our engine: the lifters and knocking
The latter being more serious than the other.

Just trying to make you chuckle, sorry for not being much help.
On the other hand, you are aware that several people have had problems with the lifters and cams, right? I would consider this as well as a leak in the manifold?
Heavy gas smell from exhaust or engine bay?

Update....brought the car to dealer....checked secondary air pump, vacuum, relay etc....everything working fine.....
Weird..hopefully no long term issues...will test for next few weeks...at least no more misfires with gas.
