Secondary cats gutted.

Due to UK MOT rulings that state secondary cats must be fitted I had my secondary cats gutted and then welded back up. I can safely say that digging out the internals is a bloody nightmare.

However the hard work is well worth while. The car now sounds awesome. No change in the cruise but when you floor the loud pedal it's pure bliss.

Out of curiosity if I remove my resonator and replace with an H pipe what difference will that make to the sound ?

Cutting open the top.

One down, one to go.

All done and welded back up.

I'm in California. will this Modification still pass my Smog Laws of California?
Will they even be able to tell if they are still in or have been taken out all together?

This mod? No. No O2 sensors so no light, and should pass sniffer. Sniffer is being phased out so if just through obd2 you should be golden.

Another approach without cutting and re-welding: Take off and ram a broom stick into the cat to break up the and then dump out....

LOL...... You sir have never tried to remove the internals of a C63 secondary cat. It's a metal foil structure. Not one of those composite honeycomb ones that just fall to pieces.

However you carry on ramming your broomstick and see where it gets you

This and that.
Why didn't you just put a straight pipe and removed the secondary cats instead? Is it any different than what you did?

So it was really that hard removing the internals? Like took hours to do? What was so hard about it? I would like a little more noise while retaining the stock looking exhaust.
