Very rough start
2013, 14k miles, no issues prior.
Pulled it out of my garage today and parked it (cleaning out the garage) and it sat for the day. It is on a very small downward slope at this point. So I go to start it later in the day and a lot of smoke out of the exhaust (blue in color) and it was definitely misfiring. Seemed like the car couldn't just smooth itself out whatsoever. CEL popped up and I shut it down. This was a period of 7-10 seconds.
Checked around for leaks, loose fittings, etc and started it again. No issues this time, just a fair amount of lifter noise. Let it idle for a minute to see if the CEL would pop up, which is off again. The lifters went from loud to a quiet so I decided to drive it. As soon as I was off the incline the noise went away and car drove fine.
Anyone else have this happened? It was almost as though it was a false start, fell on it's face and couldn't fire properly and just needed a redo. No smoke second start.

I mean it was like 6 hours... I did keep it parked for 4 months over the winter but that was already 1500 miles ago, so I don't see why that would be a thing now.
I'm definitely interested to see how it starts up next time I leave. Probably wont be for a few days because I'm a hermit.
Seriously though, it was just like start, blue cloud, a whole lot of misfires and nope. Then second try it was like, oh alright fine I'll do it.

When is the last time you did an oil change?
How is the oil level at the moment?

Sometimes my tuned Bimmers would act funny after being left parked on an incline for an extended period of time.
Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Yeah, I mean usually these cars are good about telling you if the oil is low. My last c63 had that message pop up once on me. But I'll go ahead and check it the old fashion way.

I literally just had something similar to this happen to me yesterday. started it up while it was warm and just a huge plume of smoke. no rough idling though. after about 15 seconds it stopped. I shut it off and started it back up and was fine. drove down the road and she was fine. I made sure to monitor all my gauges mainly including oil and water temp ani literally just had something similar to this happen to me yesterday. started it up while it was warm and just a huge plume of smoke. no rough idling though. after about 15 seconds it stopped. So let me tell you...I believe the M156 does not like to be turned on moved 20 ft and then turned off. It does not give the car any time to get oil/pressure to all th right parts and it gets ugly for a bit. I've had this...new rule....always let is run for a bit, don't just move it from cold and switch off.

Checked the oil today as well. Levels are spot on where they should be. Cold start this morning was perfect as well. Nice snap against the wall, smooth, no lifter noise, nothing.
So, I'm just going to tack this one up to a weird happening that I'll remember, but I'm not going to worry about it.

Up to about 18k miles I had a couple of smokey starts, but never since then, about to hit 30k miles now. Also, noise and oil consumption changed dramatically :-).

they can sit forever if you change the fluids..my car sat for 2 months w/o being started because i had to wait for the fuel pumps to come in from germany, although the tune seemed to unadapt or something because it kinda drove sluggish but i reloaded the tune and it's back to normal

These cars need some time to warm up! Personally, I leave my car on for a couple of minutes before its driven untill the oils heat up. They say you can drive it the second you turn it on, but doesn't seem like the c63 likes that at all.

I think that the starting and stopping quickly is what did me in on this one.
No issues since that one start though.

My car has done similar things when I've started it up cold and moved it a few feet, and then shut it down. It's almost like a carb'd engine getting all loaded up.

My car has been stored since Jan. I go to Florida, but it's in a heated garage. 2013 sedan w/ approx. 10K Always makes me nervous when I start the car for the first time. Last year, started right up, no smoke, drove fine. I've installed a Eurocharged V5 since then, so I hope all is fine when I return. You guys make me nervous. Fortunately, I'm due for service, so I set something up a couple of days after returning home. Hope the car comes out of hibernation w/ no glitches.
