Wavetrac LSD Problems.. Need advice!
Hi Folks,
I recently had a very qualified shop install a Wavetrac LSD on my 2014 C63 507 Edition. I absolutely love the way it changed how the car handles and the difference in grip, however I am having an issue.
When the shop originally installed the LSD they did not have a clip lined up properly so the LSD was pumping oil out of the breather hose. I brought the car back to the shop and they fixed that problem immediately. After another 100 miles I noticed a much smaller amount of oil had been blown out and I am guessing from the same place. I have not been back to the shop yet because I am hoping to collect some information beforehand.
I reached out to both the manufacture and the place that sold me the LSD and neither of them responded with any useful information. Attached is a photo of the oil after the second time it blew out..
Has anyone else had a similar problem, is this typical? Does anyone have any install advice? The shop that did the install is perfectly qualified but had not done this on a C63.
Thank you
Ed

Interesting...
I will reach out to the folks at Wavetrac today and ask them to participate on this thread. I would agree that this is NOT normal or acceptable and that there should be a fix.
Please continue to add to this thread...
Thanks,
Ed

Yeah more than likely it was overfilled. Not a big deal. Once the gear oil heats up it actually expands quite a bit. I'd just make certain neither you drain or fill plugs are leaking, and the axle seals like you mentioned and overtime this will come to an end.

After exchanging a couple of emails with the folks at Wavetrac they came to the same conclusion that it must have been overfilled. I will keep an eye on it, hopefully this was the case and ill have 100k of carefree Wavetrac fun!
Thanks for all of the input,
Ed

Was it filled on its side on the bench or the car on steep angle? Even if you pour fluid in quickly, then quickly secure the fill bolt it's hard to picture being over filled enough to come out the breather.

I didn't actually do the swap, a local shop did. I would agree with you that it should be hard to overfill it, but both the shop and the folks at Wavetrac seem to think that was the issue. I have been told just to drive it and enjoy it.
Can you think of any other reason why oil would or could come out of the breather hose?
Thanks,
Ed

my car goes in tomorrow to the shop that installed the wavetrac, ill post back with what they say
one thing i did notice though, when my car is "colder" the diff is as dry as a bone, if it starts being WOT'd then it starts to get wet...maybe heat expansion? i had my wavetrac installed 1+ year ago so idk ..we'll see

Apparently if you install a C-Clip incorrectly it literally will pump oil out of the breather. When mine was originally done I had that problem, however since that was corrected the amount of oil coming out was greatly reduced..

^^^ Yeah I would TOTALLY do that and SEE what happens. Please attach a GoPRO so we can see the action. I had my rear diff grenade while driving through the canyons, scared the **** out of me.
