Should I opt for the extended warranty?

Hey guys,

Arranging delivery of my 2014 507 Edition, and the dealer is asking me if I want to go with the extended warranty.

Right now, I have full manufacturers warranty until 2017, and then 2 year of limited warranty.

I can opt to extend the full warranty until 2020 for $3590.

They also have a 6 year tire & rim protection plan for $2590.

All prices are in Canadian dollars.

What do you guys suggest?

Any input would be appreciated

do u need to buy now? or can u wait til warranty is running out?
i would opt for the extended warranty myself, ive experienced a few things go wrong in the past with other cars, and its always good to be covered. make sure u dont modify or if u do, it can be reversed, as the insurance company will void any cover

I am in the same boat and if I buy within 3 months of the inspection date I can save $200 on another inspection. I think they are asking $3050 for mine for 2 years CPO upgrade to full coverage. I passed on the wheel and tire warranty based on past history. I don't even buy tire coverage when I buy tires. I did lose a Michelin PSS due to a screw in the sidewall but that is one unrepairable tire in 40 years. I have never ruined a wheel (knock on wood...LOL).

As to the warranty upgrade I think I will pass. I only put on 5000km a year and I already have a tune and headers to install. Only you can properly access your situation and comfort level to determine if the warranty is worth it to you. They say never bet against the house as you will lose in the long run. Not every one will lose but the odds are not in your favor most times.

I was told that if I wanted to get it later, I would need an inspection and that could cost money?

yes buy the warranty, thats roughly the same price as a third party warranty and it's a lot cheaper than what mb quoted me to get a warranty on a used model.

One decent repair bill pays for the warranty price, the repair bills stack up fast.

3 years of piece of mind is worth $3600 to me. I would get the warranty unless you plan on modifying the car heavily.

As long as the vehicle is still under the original Mercedes Factory warranty you should be able to get it without the additional inspection. If you shop around you will likely find the same or better price too.

Personally I would wait until 2017 and revisit this if you decide to keep the car past that time period.
