M156/722.9 Gearbox
Hey guys my brother is halfway through his build. Car is N/A and making some good power.
All that's left is trying to decide what headers if he's going down that path.
Car is making 430hp @ wheels with tune and mods, with no headers.
It feels as though the car is still being dragged back... Is there anything you can do to the stock M156 transmission to get it shifting faster and to make it more alive? It just feels delayed and slow.

Spoke with A&B and they don't offer much unfortunately. What they do offer is a rebuild back to OEM specs at approx $10500au lol

Will a re-adaption maybe fix the issue? It never used to shift this slow and jerky. It's started doing it recently after the car hadn't been driven for a while.

I had the weistec TCU/Valve body done to my car but keep in mind I have a coupe with MCT trans. The improvement in shift speed was very noticeable and really gave more positive engagement into the gears with more of a "kick" to the back of the head. It wont make the car respond like a DCT though don't expect miracles but for the price and results I would deff recommend it. It also helps the transmission hold more power and last longer due to less slippage according to weistec.
*Tip I ordered mine on black Friday when weistec always does a 20% off deal on them. Tell them you want to buy it and ask if they can extend the black Friday sale to you now they most likely will.

I would suggest that you take the car for an extremely thorough thrashing. that will wake the gear box up and gets some readaptation. Give it a go before you spend money. These gear boxes get lazy and a good beating does work. Trust me.

Maverick - I noticed that when i had my C63. If you drove the car normally and in C for a while the gearbox became lazy and slow.
Thrash it around for a while and it becomes sharp and responsive.
The way these boxes adapt are so annoying.

I came from a DCT E92 M3 so the shifting in M156 cars is painfully slow.. (All the extra torque makes up for it though).
Search deep enough and there are options to have the TCU tuned to your liking, was on the verge of sending mine over to Germany for speed shift and blip tuning.
Local tuners have TCU tunes but claim it's not worth it unless your F/I.
It's true, drive your car hard and it'll adapt and get better (slightly). Mine sits for months while I work and gets lazy so I have to let her stretch the legs and she comes back to life.

If the W204 63 or any AMG from 2007+ had DCT they would be on a whole other level of dominating performance, don't know why Benz doesn't go for it.
Honestly the DCT in the E92+ Ms drives better in automatic mode than benzs real automatic, it's a win win with DCT.
One can only dream of what if.

Just reset the TCU and drive it hard for a bit. Like others have said, if you drive in C mode or long distances with out speed change, the car gets a bit lazy.
