question regarding rear view camera and software
i have a 2012 my 13 estate, and the rear view camera when activated with reverse gear only shows an image. my question is this, do the newer years have any graphics on the actual image such as animated lines that help guide you when parking etc? or do they also just have a plain image with no lines, animations etc.
my brothers b8 rs4 has an awesome rvc that has a animated parking guide that moves when u turn the wheel so that u can interpret where to move the car, it is also overlayed with the parking distance guide for front and rear so u know how far objects are. rather than the benz unit with the separate light bars on the dash and roof.
so my question is this, if the newer years have lines, animations, is it a software upgrade or something else?

Ford Truck, 2014 C63 AMG 507
My 2014 also only has an image.
Bought a 2015 Audi S3 for my wife, it has very nice alignment graphics and lines that move indicating front wheel turn angle.

MBWorld Fanatic!
I had a new GLK350 loaner last week. Its rearview camera has vivid color, distance lines and animated indication of path. I was impressed.
In comparison, the only advantage of the crappy C63 camera is that it is very wide-angle, almost a fish-eye, that makes it much easier to see cross traffic when backing out of a parking spot.

The distance lines are nice (had a W205 loaner over weekend, they are on my wife's 2011 Volvo also). I don't care about the distance, rather than just having some marking to indicate the relative distance from the sides when backing up.
For example, when parallel parking, you can uses the lines on the camera as a mother method to determine relative distance from curb. Also, I back my car out of the driveway, but have to go past a gate on one side and fence on the other -my wife just centers the lines between the two obstacles and makes it out perfectly each time.
If I could just get a static set of lines, that would be great.

Mine is a 2013, the rear view camera sucks *****.
I had a 2013 GLK, which had the guidelines and way better camera quality. Why is there such a ****ty camera in the C63?!
I would also like to know if there's an upgrade.

I think for the path line, you'd need electric steering to be able to know where your wheel is pointed at, and we love the hydraulic steering.
So, i wouldn't care less about the lines and dot, if that means going to electric steering.

You should be able to enable the lines by going into the Engineering menu and changing the backup camera software.
I am actually having one installed on my 2010, was supposed to come with it from the dealer but it didn't so I am fighting with the dealer to have them install it for me.

So the dealer just told me, this wasn't a MB dealer so keep that in mind, they can't put a backup camera in my car because it just didn't get wired for it. But when I called and spoke to MB dealer they told me my car was wired for the camera but just needed to have it installed. Anyone know the factory camera part number?
