My C63 Meets An Untimely Death
Hello Everyone,
Some of you may recall that I was relocating to Houston in May. That move was uneventful on 5/18.... and then there was the flood. I was trying to get to the house where I live, and thought I was OK. Somehow at some point, enough water got into the right hand intake to seize the engine. It was determined that the only option was to replace the engine (and who knows what else). I talked it over with Geico and we agreed it should be totaled. It only had 38,000 miles on it, and was pretty much pristine.
Geico was outstanding and very expediant in the handling of the claim, and very fair with the settlement. So now I've moved on to a new 2015 F150 4X4 truck, which I'll need here in Houston for home remodeling work.
I intend to hang around on the forum and will assist wherever possible, as I fully intend to be back in the AMG world as soon as I can.
Best regards to all,
Joe

Man that sucks, I was wondering how many cars would get totaled down there. Was just reading on a dfw car forum today about a guy who had the same happen to his bmw and opted for an engine replacement
Having a truck is really handy at times, just get another amg quick and have both!

Sorry to hear that the C63 died - that must have been a really painful moment. This is a great car for many things but deep water isn't one of them. The air intakes right on top of the radiator are positioned where any water at the front of the car will get sucked into the engine, and that's instant death. Pushing through water deep enough to cause any sort of a bow wave looks like it would wash up against the radiator and very easily do that. Valvestud's loss is a good lesson for the rest of us - it's best to park the beast when the streets look bad.

Sorry to hear about the C, but awesome that Geico was so helpful.
How's the truck? I was considering a Sierra 2500 HD to get some turbo diesel in my life (I know, completely different world) but trucks are just so damn handy.

That is a very unfortunate end to your C63. It is good to hear that the insurance took good care of your claim. Best of luck in the future and hope you find your way back to an AMG soon.

Welcome to Houston! What a terrible time to get here. I don't drive my car when it rains because of that very reason, I use a Land cruiser for crappy weather days. In Houston you never known when a storm will flood the streets. And they are designed that way, to hold water and save the homes and businesses. But really it's not very common and was just bad timing!

First off, thanks to all that responded. It was definitely a bad day when the decision was made to total.
I got a Lariat SuperCrew with 5.5 box, and all the goodies except park assist. Great vehicle and I continue to be amazed by the power of the 3.5 EcoBoost.
The night of May 25.
I'm the same way about driving in heavy rain. I was OK for awhile, stopped and let it calm down, and then tried to proceed. I can only guess I was going just fast enough for water to wash up over the grille and into the right intake.
