Amputation is the cheapest in the long run.

Depends where you live. Do the locals use X-band, Ka, traffic cameras, laser, etc? I always have Waze running on my mounted car phone and that tags stationary police about 95% of the time. For the other 5% I have an escort 9500ci.

I use waze during my daily commute. My Escort 9500 xi comes out of the closet when I go on long drives. Waze + radar combo is quite good.

I don't use waze like most because I don't like the distraction , but I love my passport max2
Have a valentine also but the dang thing never shuts up , do prefer the directional notifications though

In 10+ years of using Escort Passport products, I've had zero tickets (knock on wood).

Currently using a Passport 9500ix. Tried the V1 once. Got rid of it after 2 weeks. Too many false alarms.

As Nanook said, the Beltronics STiR+ is a great bit of kit too. Might try one in one of my other cars.

I use Waze + Passport 9500ix, great combo but Waze alone if you live in a metro area is pretty good, like someone mentioned earlier.

detectors

waze and the STI.......living in VA, you need a detector that is invisible to the detector detectors :-)

The STI has great range, sometimes ridiculous range on many trips from VA to Hilton head and up north to NJ/NY/CT. Saved me so many times. Waze is good too for real time alerts for laser because if you get the laser alert on your detector going off then they are probably pointed right at you and you're busted.

I've had passports in the past too and they also worked great.

One other thing to point out is that with many of the MB line, the coating they have on the windshield will block ability of certain signals to work good. I see this with my handheld garage door opener, my ez pass, and I always mount the detector in that spot just below the headliner, before the RV mirror, that is a cut out on purpose by MB that doesn't have the coating. There is another one very low just beside where my state inspection sticker goes.

Go direct to the enthusiast forum. Some very knowledgable people who are happy to give advice. Your question has been covered there many times.

V1 can turn off the x band and k band that most auto doors use. So, no false alert.

Yeah if you live in an area where no departments use k, some near me still use k for some reason

Great question for the RDforum. When you get to the $400+ range, it comes down to personal preference. Have used V1 for 15 years with 2 tickets from getting paced at night. Otherwise, the sensitivity has been outstanding with the additional benefit of directionality.
Right now I have the V1 hardwired and will likely connect it through the OBD to silence when below 35 mph.

This and that.
I have been using the 9500ix for the past couple of months and I can honestly say that not once has it gone off when a police officer has actually been standing there. It seems to just randomly beep for whatever reason. It does have GPS feature so does indicate the traffic cameras more often than not so that's good. Otherwise I don't know if it's the setting or I don't know what I am doing but every time it goes off, I slow down and never end up seeing a cop anywhere. I have it on setting 'autonox' and the k band notification goes off constantly and there is nothing.

I think it also comes down to money....how much driving you do would also factor in to how "much" radar protection you actually need.....I drive ALL THE TIME so I need VERY good detection/jamming, so I have the Passport 9500ci, awesome, full featured with phenomenal range----but it's $2,000

but if an agency in your area uses DragonEye it doesn't matter how much you spend-you're FUBAR!!!

I too have used the V1 in all of my cars hardwired.

Moved to a different province and cops now use K band Had it turned off before due to false alarms. Arghhhh.

The V1 has awesome range, the directional indicators are fantastic but you suffer with false alarms due to being too sensitive.

My V1 is hardwired and on mute with the remote display and Waze for live updates and piggy sightings.

I've been looking at the max2. Do you guys find Waze to be pretty Johnny on the spot?

Used V1 for awhile, was a big fan... Ended up selling it and got a Escort Redline.. Never turned back. The V1 beeps too much and gives off false alarms.
