From a 2007 911 Turbo to 2012 C63 AMG
Long time lurker, first time post.
I just wanted to post a small blurb for any others out there who live in Phoenix, AZ or other hot climate locals.
I owned a somewhat modified 2007 911 Turbo (headers, catback, intake, tune, plugs, race clutch). During winter time, this car was an absolute blast to drive. Summer time....sucked. 105+ degree heat, the computer would adjust timing/fuel and horsepower would go down, what felt like 150-200hp less.
Anyway,
on to the C63. I've owned it for a week now, and wow, what a difference naturally aspirated does for performance in heat. This car is a beast, and I have yet to hit above 230 degree engine temp when romping on it for 20-30 minutes. The power output is more enjoyable under lighter acceleration than my old turbo 911 too.
Have some planned mods, but nothing too crazy.
Cheers

I'm impatient as well with cars. You're coming from an S4? Great car too, but I'm sure you'll especially appreciate the extra power from the C63.
Thx! I'm talking to Dan/Vivid Racing now about tune and exhaust. My requirement is valvetronic with catback for sure, so we'll see what I come out with.

Nice! I come from a heavily modified 996 Turbo, so I know what you're going through. The traction on demand in any condition and turbo kick are great, but I'm finding the C63 to be more 'fun' and puts a bigger smile on my face. Plus, I'm not constantly worrying about the little dings and blemishes that come with a city car. Requires more modification to be good on a track, but I'm getting there....
Enjoy

Had a stock 2007 C4 997 that I traded for my '12 C63 coupe (I also had an '09 C63 sedan prior to owning the Porsche). The P-car was fun to drive and made great noises, but man, was that car fragile! I think you'll definitely appreciate the solid build quality of the W204 C63 over time. It's built like a tank!

Thx for the welcome msgs...
Same thinking applies to me as well...I can't explain it. The 911tt ownership experience was pretty cool, but, this C63 AMG feels so solid and responsive, I'm beginning to believe I like driving it more than the old car.
I'm sure there are others making the opposite move too.
haha, I guess. I had close to $10k in mods, but there were others on rennlist with much, much more than me.
I do miss it. I'll own one again if my budget allows. Mine had 45k miles on it at the time that pictures was taken. No dents, no dings, no scratches.
More pics...

I had a modified 996TT.
The C63 is much more fun to drive. But don't kid yourself, the TT is much quicker/faster, even in summer heat. What you actually feel is the rear wheels sliding and the awesome engine sound, making you believe it's quicker than it is.
Every single stretches of road where I knew exactly my speed in the TT the C63 is slower. The higher the speed, the bigger the margin. A short straight between two exits I'd hit 200+kmh in the 996TT I can barely get to 180kmh in the AMG and I drive it ***** to the walls where I'd just use the massive torque in the Turbo not really pushing every gear.
But yeah, much more fun car to drive hands down. The 911tt in summer has too much grip and is just too much for the streets. The C63 will slide its tail on exit ramps and that sound is just cherry on the cake.
You might think the na engine doesn't suffer from the heat, but it does big time. Just wait for a cooler night and go drive it, you'll see what I mean. After a very hot humid day when I get back home on a cool night, it feels like it has a 100hp more.
*Just noticed you're from Arizona, well maybe wait for winter to get that 100hp more feeling...

Welcome OP! I will join the chorus of people who had a 911. I had a 996 C4S. Coolest looking and most distinctive car I even owned, that 6 speed was the slickest I ever owned. PSE made all the right noises. But man was that interior ****ty. Geezuz. Hell it didn't even have HID headlights, bluetooth, auto wipers, heated seats, etc. The thing was a crying shame for a $105k car. I traded it in after a year for my C63 (my 3rd AMG over the years) but said I'd go back to a 997 TT when its time to move on from the C63 and do it right.
But the problem is that the 997 interior was pretty much the same as the 996 right up to the year 2009 I believe. That's when they updated it and offered the PDK for the first time. So I may have to wait till I can afford a nice low mileage 2010 997 TT (currently $85-100k).

hah, it does make a huge difference here. I know we have a dry heat, but turbo cars really suffer with 105+ degree heat, compared to NA motors (at least in my experience). No doubt the 911TT is faster, but the torque range and power of the AMG is much more useful in my opinion.

But do I miss the huge 600ft.lbs of my old 996TT. That shove in the back from 3000rpm+ was something else.
