Interesting. I'd put the car up in the air and put your hand on all the suspension parts to see if something is loose.

no active suspension. Which continental exetreme tires? dws or dws06? those are both horrible. Check for bent wheels, the inside barrel not the outside and as everyone said alignment. you just bought it so any ideas on what repairs may have been done previously. Alot of these cars get wrecked since people cant handle the power. Yea it's sad because it's got such great brakes, suspension and not really that much torque but people suck. I have seen rear control arms on the multilink suspension left loose - it didnt make any popping or knocking noises but the steering would shift about 30 degrees to keep the car driving straight as the back end would swap which way it wanted to dog walk. It was pretty scary.

A bent wheel would lead to vibration - none

Alignment would pull left OR right-this is both

Carfax is clean.... doesn't mean it's nit wrecked but everything looks solid so far

I'll look into the suspension next. Taking it to dealer Thursday at 1 (app made). Spoke with 2 dealers today and they both have AMG foremen who can analyze it.

Keep us posted on what they find. I just bought a 2012 C63 Coupe a few weeks ago and I've noticed the same exact behavior on mine. It may not be as aggressive as yours and it usually only happens at freeway speeds. It feels twitchy like I randomly sway left and right. I find that if I don't try to correct I maintain a straight, albeit with a drunken sway path. I got the alignment done at the dealership and it still does this.

Do an alignment and proper wheel balancing & get back to us. performing the alignment will make any susp parts with play obvious to the mechanics. If it still persists i would say check the steering damper.

Thank you- at least I don't feel alone. The dealership tried to tell me that these are high performance cars and that they will easily follow the crown of the road.

I have driven M3, NSX, 911 GT3 , Z06 vettes, IS-Fs, etc.... nothing is like this.

I was thinking some sort of sub frame issue or maybe a sway bar bushing or end link issue?

But it happens within the same lane while cruising too. Just sliding left and right.

Gonna take take a ride with a buddy now and see if he can explain it any better.
No. I don't mean construction. I mean the striations that exist to help with water dispersion and are on most every freeway I drive on every day.

Update : Just got back from the dealer. Head AMG guy took the car for a ride. Told me he just returned from a trip from Affalterbach to train on the launch for the new W205 AMG.

took the car down the road and INSTANTLY he said something isn't right.

First thought - directional tires not mounted properly. ..... nope
Second checked alignment - nope

Putting it in a lift in the morning to check tie rods, control arms, sway bars and bushings

So thankful he confirmed that this was NOT normal and they would look into it. ASAP.
Can't wait to be able to REALLY drive this car

For now...2016 E 350 loaner with only 21 miles. ..... not bad

I can promise you the issue is the mismatched tires. I had this exact problem a few months ago when I put the DWS' on the rear of my car with the Sport Contact tires up front. The DWS sidewalls are very soft compared to the Sport Contact's sidewalls. As a result there is a "rolling" feeling in the back from the tires and it feels like the rear takes a second to "catch up" to the change in direction from the front. Slap matching tires on the back and you'll be as good as gravy.

A bent tie rod would reveal itself during the alignment since it's just a piece of metal that connects two other pieces of metal and dictates alignment measurements re toe. Loose tie rod maybe, but doubtful with your low mileage and something that should have been checked when the car was on the alignment rack.

FINAL info seems to be in
Ill pick up the car tomorrow but as of now the dealer says its been handled and they test drove it again and say its fine

1) The tie rod had been replaced before I got the car and was noted in the service records- why? I don't know
2) alignment WAS off with 1 degree "toe in" passenger - and a half degree "toe out" driver side....but i believe he said it was in the REAR? (i had a phone message - cant recall right now)

doesn't seem like much to me but seems that they believe it fixed the issue

even the service guys didn't think it would be alignment but our initial thought (and mine when I read the posts here I doubted alignment because I was thinking only caster/camber never thought of toe

to those who i doubted-- apologies!
Find out tomorrow if the problem is solved when i pick it up

Same problem - Floating feeling while driving

Hey guys,

Can someone take a look at my alignment sheet and tell me if what you see could make my car feel like it's floating over the road when driving. It tracks perfectly straight and the steering wheel is dead center, however the car feels off. It's driving me crazy because it's no longer fun to drive and I need some direction on what it could be. It didn't feel like this before the new tires and alignment. Help. See attached.

Well you had way more front toe in before. That's the first thing to attribute to this feeling of lightness.

Toe in is going to keep you a firmer steering feel, while closer to zero (neutral) will give you better steering response and "liveleyness". Your at the latter.

What tires were you running before and what are you running now? Sizes too.

Tires and Alignment

Continental Extreme Contact Stock Sizes. Don't know what they are without looking at them. To top numbers are after a shop put in the MB
Camber kits so that's why the top numbers are way off. The bottom numbers are of course after the car was aligned.

I believe the alignment was done on a Hunter alignment rack.

Did they take of DW and install DWS? DWS are horrendous and DW's are soft, but not as bad...

It's not the tires. P31, 2012, no LSD, and I have the "oh so terrible" DWS in rear and DW in front (stock sizes). Car sticks to the road and handles like a dream on the highway. The problem is alignment or something loose in the suspension.

I'm sorry, but if you think your car handles like a dream on DWS, you'll think your driving a formula one car with something like Hancook RS3's or AD-08's.

Let's definitely not spread info that DWS are top tier performance tires because this is utterly not the case.

Let's call things like they are -- a DWS is a decent all season tire.

DW on the front probably feels better, but the sidewalls are still super squishy so you'll get that through the steering feel.

But I do agree with you -- could definitely be something in the suspension.

Check your tire pressure, it seems high for the rear specially when you do all driving alone.
Also, how many miles are on those shocks?
my car has 60k km on i think the front shocks are about to go.
