Fuel Injection Cleaning
Hello All,
I just had service B done on my '13 C63 and it was also recommended that the fuel injectors be cleaned. Apparently they use some specialized equipment that also cleans out the injectors, intake valves and combustion chambers. Since I've seen photos of some 6.2L engines with the heads off and they had a lot of carbon buildup I decided to let them (dealership by the way) do it.
Question is, is this really necessary with only 12K miles or did I jump the gun and do it too early or maybe doesn't need to be done at all? Oh yes it also added $150 to the cost. Thanks for your input one and all.

Cleaning your fuel injectors by taking them out and sending them to a company that specializes in that is not a scam. Not even remotely.
You can ask ask for before and after flow tests to see the difference. Look this up on youtube.

That's not what the dealer does. What they are offering is scam central.

A can of BG44k is about all I use every 10-12k miles. There is a BG machine that I've seen some dealers try to push on people, usually with much more mileage than the OP though.

OP, if you have no drivability issues or CEL, then you don't need it.

Well here's the thing: there are injector cleaning machines that will clean out your injectors while in the car. I think we can all agree with that.
However, the question is whether the dealer is actually going to perform the service. I'd bet a large sum of money that the answer is no therefore yes, I'd agree this is a scam.
I didn't read the OP throurghly enough so didn't know OP was going to the dealer. In that case, steer clear moving forward!

Hey all,
Thanks so much for everyone's input so far. BLKROKT, I've read others who feel the same way (scam). I almost didn't do it as I had no issues with how the engine was running. As someone else mentioned though, which I hope is not the case, the dealer probably didn't even perform the cleaning. But if this is so wouldn't they open themselves up to a lawsuit for fraud if they are caught not performing services that are paid for? Anyway, the deed is done and the car runs great so I guess, lesson learned. Next time I'll take a pass.
By the way, this is what is on my invoice: "Fuel injection service-using specialized equipment we thoroughly clean out the fuel injectors, intake valves, & combustion chamber. Then a powerful fuel system cleaner is added to the fuel tank for secondary clean up of fuel deposits." I use Chevron premium which has Techron in the fuel and I'm almost certain that they put a bottle of this stuff in the tank for "secondary" cleaning.

yep thats snake oil non sense. Basically they stick a spray probe in your intake manifold and connect a line to your fuel rail and run the engine. This is typical hack big money dealership nonsense, just like power steering flushes etc... Plenty of big name dealers using this stuff to make a quick buck. Just like how many use non-mb fluids for brake flushes and transmission services. Becareful what you are paying for. Not all dealers pull this crap so be on the look out for the good ones.
