CEL code and inspection in NJ

Look for some input guys. I've been having an issue on and off with a CEL on my car (read: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ode-p228f.html). I've made multiple trips to both an indy shop and my dealer. After replacing a bunch of stuff (some covered under my extended warranty, some not), I still have the CEL. My dealer basically told me that there is nothing wrong with my car and the code is being triggered due to a software issueaccording to an MB specialist they brought in to help, and it will be fixed in a software update. Of course none if this is in writing, and there is currently no ETA.

What are my options for inspection? Are dealers typically able to inspect cars? Is there such a thing as them working with an inspection station and saying the CEL is false?

i have another vehicle, a '99.5 Pathfinder, that has been through inspection a bunch of times and has had an on/off check engine light due to what is likely a faulty piece of the EVAP system off the gas tank. it plugs in and passes inspection every time. they reset it, plug it in, run it through inspection and then like three days later, depending on fuel level, the light comes back on. i know there are readiness values and stuff but for some reason that doesn't matter in this case. it's as if you are allowed one or two faults as long as a light isn't lit.

You should be able to pass with 1 CEL anyway.

As opposed to two CEL's on?

No. One INCOMPLETE readiness monitor, sure.

A fault code with a lit MIL? Not a chance.

I just read into it more to be sure. Thanks for that ddillenger, you are correct. Can't have the CEL, it's the monitors that can be incomplete.

MMMHMM.

They are sticklers unfortunately.

To the OP:

Do you have freeze frame data for that code? How much in excess of spec pressure are we talking? I can adjust that limit if Mercedes is saying that's the issue, and it is truly just awaiting a software update.

Not sure what dealer you go to but I would go to Prestige MB and make an appointment for just Matt Kaiser to work on your car. If you are not under warranty go to Eurotech Motorsports in Mahwah and schedule him to look at your car.

Based on what the dealer told me, they've checked my fuel pressure at different times, startup, idle, and under various driving conditions, etc. and it is all normal, but due to a "software issue" the CEL is being triggered.

i'll contact eurotech and see what they can do for me. i'd really rather not replace the same stuff all over again. the dealer already replaced some things that the indy shop already replaced because they said they couldn't take it at my word or his word that everything was done properly, and in the end the CEL was still there. the car drives perfect and is still very strong, just this stupid light.

I'm tuned, or was tuned, before they had me get a new ECU which did absolutely nothing. Is it possible for a tuner to block or suppress the code? Is that a thing?
