Quaife Differential leak

Hi guys,

Just fitted a Quaife LSD 1 month ago.

Now noticing an oil leak for last 2 weeks as smell of burned oil on exhaust.
Not much. Small spot on garage floor no more that 10cm diameter.

Garage where I fitted has agreed to check on it in another 12 days.

Am I safe to drive around with a leak?

Should I top up transmission oil?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Mine was leaking through the vent hole. It required a heavier duty race fluid to fix.

Who fitted it? Any shutter on cornering? Just want to make sure both bushings (rings) on either side were replaced back correctly...

It may just be a little fluid expanding through the vent hole (as mentioned) and not a leak. If that is the case it will equalize over time and stop leaking out. Good idea to have the shop check it. Another brand or viscosity range of fluid may be a good idea as well. It is hard to say if it is safe to drive it without determining the cause of the leak and checking the level in the differential.

Please don't put transmission oil in your diff.

Its a thick gear oil. If its dropped a bit here and there you should be fine, depends how bad its leaking.. Hows it getting on the exhaust??

Its leaking unto the pipes near the fins, before it curves to the backboxes.

Hence when exhaust heats up, it smells.

Will lessen the use of car until the 30th then.
Seems like the leak is less is driven at normal pace and not heated up.

Thanks all for advice.
