Tune advice from 507 owners...

Considering taking advantage of the Eurocharged V5 tune offer. As a new, first time owner of a C63 507. I'd like to get some advice from others 507 or C63 owners. Incidentally, I just installed ROW airboxes with the AFE filters this morning.

Eurocharged was kind enough to share the following with me...

Thanks for the input

I installed the v5 tune from EC.

1. Service and communication were top notch.
2. Can go back to 'stock'
3. I didn't notice much other than the downshifts.

I didn't like how they appear to have remapped the throttle to make it seem quicker/more responsive at lower rpm (?changed the 'ramp' up on the throttle?)

But for not much $$ some gains, still worth it in my opinion.

Simple. Do you wish to retain your factory warranty?

--- Did you hesitate answering that? Yes? Don't get the tune. The gains are so minimal on a 507 that the few extra hp (that you really wont notice on the butt dyno) and some downshift noise really isn't worth it.

Don't care about your warranty? Pair your tune with a secondary cat / resonator delete to get the most of the downshifting noise.

Better make up your mind fast, that sale ends soon.

^^^ That was my understanding and the reason I never went for it.

You need to speak to those they are converted. EC V5 is a great tune. Smoothing out idle is really nice and giving you some power gains that can be felt by the butt dyno.

Smoothing out the idle? And you must have a pretty sensitive butt dyno because the hp gains are really small on a 507.

Yes, there are gains. Yes, the tune is reliable. And yes, there are some small noticeable differences. But, if you suffer some type of failure on the car (ie blown tranny or some catastrophic event in your engine) then you'll be in big trouble. I'm not saying the tune will cause this, I'm saying that bad things still happen to completely stock cars.

Also, those of you who are about to come in here and say the tune is undetectable... You may be correct that the dealer wont notice. However, when your car suffers a huge failure engineers in Germany may be given access to your ECU and it wont take long for them to notice something isn't how it should be.

Again, I'm not over here saying your car is definitely going to suffer some type of failure. I'm just the type of person who is going to be cautious on aftermarket products that provide minimal gains. On the other hand, I also have a great relationship with dealers around and I know they'll look the other way if something should happen. You may want to do the same.

I reccomend Weistec and do the ecu/tcu valvebody. I'm sure the eurocharged is awesome too but they don't physically modify the valvebody for a true blip. In my opinion the tune greatly improves the drivers experience, feeling more urgent, faster shifting, throttle blip, rev matching etc. so happy with it.

Anyone know if the top speed limiter is removed with the EC tune, and if top rpm is raised to what?

The limiter is removed. Not sure what the RPM is raised to, if anything probably just an additional 100-200 rpms.

EC

I'm also on the fence with this. My previous 2012 base C63 had the V5 tune and it completely transformed the car since the hp delta was significant. With the 507 and the current warranty, I'm not so sure if the value proposition is there.
In my opinion, it'll be worth it to get the tune if you're planning headers down the road. With Eurocharged's free retune program, you can easily maximize the potential of the headers. But at that point, I may opt to get a custom Dyno tune to optimize the setup anyway.
Decisions...decisions.

I did v5 EC tune with my 507 ('14 coupe) and noticed some improvements in throttle response (I guess I have a really sensitive butt too). Sarcasm aside, the warranty issue is worth considering and the gains off just the tune aren't going to fly through the saddle like with a non-507. I thought it was worth it though, and am glad I did it. I posted a thread with my dyno showing improvements in torque and WHP.

The guys at EC are good, they will work with you and they are responsive to questions and can help with the handheld/re-sets. I didn't worry much about the warranty issue, but there's always some risk.

Here's the thread I posted w/my dyno showing gains - https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ing-going.html

It doesn't take a sensitive butt dyno to appreciate the improved throttle response.

I would love for EC to keep the stock throttle map, and just fiddle with the timing/fuel maps for the extra 15-20 hp (for a 507) up top.

However, I think many people would not appreciate any difference, and would not purchase the tune because most people would not notice any difference in the delivery of power, or power up top.

I can appreciate that, I was being flip. I notice throttle and some power change but the power w/just the tune doesn't stand out significantly. However, I am looking forward to the combo of the tune w/ROW boxes -- I still haven't gotten around to adding them but am about to. Then I'll need to head back to EC.

For you 507 guys I'd start tuning if / once headers were added on. Until then, I'd leave the software alone for reasons stated above.

It's a risk / reward game.

Luckily, C63's are very stout and reliable so the chances of ever running into a serious issue is pretty small. However, I'd hate to have one of those $10k+ repair bills on the table and the dealer telling me the warranty is voided because of modifications.

Good luck making your decisions gents

Thanks for the input guys...

I will hold off on a tune for now. Just turned 4000 miles over the weekend, have 3 years left on my warranty, so there's no hurry to jump from stock right now. I may consider headers/exhaust in the future, at which point, maybe a tune would be in order.

Thanks Again
