Fishcake smoke side marker "silver bulb" question

Based on everyone's recommendation I just purchased the smoke side markers from fishcake on eBay. I plan on installing myself and have seen some good posted about best approach. Although they say 2012-2014 I think the overall agreement was they wil fit my 14...

My question is about the bulb. These come with a silver bulb, wondering if anyone is using the bulbs that fishcake provides or if these are compatible with stock bulbs? I was half way thinking of keeping a yellow bulb to stay somewhat legal. Thanks.

As long as they're 194 bulbs, you should be perfectly fine.

Don't think anyone is going to pull you over for running a silver coated side marker bulb so you should be good in that regard.

The silver bulbs do glow orange when illuminated. I like them even though they are a little different color. They look much better in the marker light when not lit. Give them a try at least before you go for the egg yoke look.

This. I dropped one of my silver bulbs and it shattered. I put the stock orange in till I got a replacement and it just looks weird.

^ What Mort said. When they're off, you can't even tell there's anything in there. When they do light up, they glow amber - so you are 100% legal.

If you don't want them to glow at all, just install ones similar to these and break the bulb (screwdriver / press hard on each led). The car will read that a bulb is there but there will not be any light emitting.

might be a dumb question but why would anyone do this???? also i have recieved mine from azn optics and looks similar to yours... did you have to force yours in the original socket???

Yes, my AZN LED's are a bit thick and definitely need a bit of forcing. Some more than others.

yeah i assumed so... i just want to see the glow now and decide which i like more... all white side marker glow with the shine of hid's on the headlights would look pretty uniform which i have no problem with at all....would probably look really good...we will see im gonna take pics of them both and post and make descision... Thanks for reassurance on the fitting of the bulbs

Best approach? Turn the wheel all the way to one side, pop off the 3 plastic holder pins, pull the plastic back and pull out the bulb (quarter twist and pull). The plastic marker then can be separated and pulled out. Super easy once you see it.

As for the silver bulb, it glows orange and looks good. I def suggest the silver coated bulb.

Thank you everyone. I honestly thought the "silver bulb" was a different color so good to know.

I have heard this way as well as going in from the hood... Did you happen to try both or just go straight through wheel well? Thanks

The LEDs are a very tight fit. They need to be forced in pretty firmly. Even I was a little scared of breaking them. In the end I manged to get them in the slot. I don't have any pics but I like the white LED lights as opposed to the amber or yellow ones. I think they go pretty well with the hids.

I just did mine through the engine compartment. The passenger side is very easy. You will need a lot patience for the drivers side as there is not a lot of wiggle room on that side.

For the first one I popped my hood and also went through the wheel well so I could get at it from both sides. Once I realized how easy it was I only went through the wheel well for the second one. First side was 10 minutes of dinking around figuring it out and second side was all of 3 minutes.

I purchased the same set (smoked DEPOs from fishcake). I plan to tackle this sometime during the upcoming weekend. I have read that going through the engine bay is the easier method than peeling back the lining of from the wheel area.

OP-
To answer your questions, the silver bulbs light up amber so it is the same when lit up, but make it look much better in the smoke sidemarker than the amber that would stick out like a sore thumb.

I'll post pics here once I am done ...

Two things to keep in mind... first, the OP asked about the legality of the markers. Side markers that glow white - or not at all - are technically illegal. The law states that they have to be amber in colour. Whether your local constabulary enforces it or not is a different question, but unless they glow amber, you *can* get a ticket, which is why using the "mirrored" amber bulbs is the only soution that both looks nice and is 100% legal.

Second, some C63s - about 15-20% of them - have a screw holding the marker in place in addition to the tabs. All side markers housings have the screw hole, but the screw itself was only put in some cars only, without any apparent pattern or logic. If yours happens to be one of those, you have no choice but to take the wheel and fender liner off in order to get to it. Just a word of warning in case you're trying to pop it out the easy way but it won't come out by releasing the tabs alone.

Not everyone likes the corners to shine. Also so the car doesn't give you a bulb out error everytime you start the car lol. I got rid of the demon orange side markers for a reason, don't need them trying to try creep back up to the surface at night lol.
