Weird noise coming from the engine (?)

Hello folks. This C63 BS is for sale, and I'm THIS close to buy it. Just noticed this odd noise coming from under the hood.. The car is 4000km far from my hometown. I don't have the vocabulary to describe how the noise sounds, but I filmed it. Well, I tried to, but my battery died before I got everything that I wanted. Here's some proof of it.

Is it too serious, doctors?? Will I survive???

Did this sound come after a cold start or was the engine fully warmed up? In the 2.5yrs of owning my 2010 C63, this happened around 3 times when cold, but goes away after it warms up. Sounds like the lifter bled down, but will be fully primed when warmed up. If it's there after it's nice and hot, I would be a little worried.

Actually, it was a cold start. By the time I was filming it, the engine should've been runing for about 3-5min (Temp. of enviroment around 15°C - 59°F.

My 2008 does this every time it sits for over a week. It will not clear up until driven for a few minutes since oil flow or pressure never gets high enough at idle to pump up the lifter once they bleed down

This noise happened with my nonBS after it sat for a few hours. Dealer replaced the tappets under warranty. Noise hasn't returned in 2 years. FYI.

So it's not a big deal, is it? What should I do if I wanted it NOT to be noise even if the car hibernates for a couple months (as if I could resist like that) ?

Sounds like the lifters. Happens to my car from time to time, goes away after a short drive and regular operating temps are reached. Perfectly normal.

As others have said, it sounds like a lifter to me. If it was as bad as "maximus" issue where it bleeds down only after a few hours, then I would go to the dealer and have them check it out.

Not a big deal and all cars do it if they sit for long periods of time without being cranked. Not just MB cars

Allright guys, thanks a lot for the feedback. I'll keep on negotiating with Dracula here.. Hopefully my SLS deal won't work out, and I stick to this Black Series. Wish me luck

This was a common issue with the 6.2, noisy lifters.

Not to thread hi-jack, but this happened to my car on Saturday (3 days ago) after a 100 mile trip up north. When I got back to my car after 3 hours of it being parked, it was ticking like this. Typically this is the noise that happens when the engine is low on oil. I checked and the oil was fine. Infact, oil was changed at MB 3 weeks ago and the tappets were changed for SLS units 3 months ago.

I'm guessing this is just normal....somehow? Damn M156 and it's quirks!

Cool car, but that sound is not good. I'd bet that if a valve cover was removed you would have cam and lifter damage. I hope that was taken in to account when the car was purchased.

I'll take it to the MB dealer soon to have it all checked out mate. Thanks for the feedback though!

The car is 12.000km (less then 8.000miles), and as soon as I started the key I heard a little bit of this noise (car has been travelling for 7days). But within a couple minutes, it stopped. Drove it all day long yesterday, several stops and turn ons, no more tickle. I believe the problem is that common issue of the M156 related above.

Thanks guys, for the orientation and guidance!
