Exhaust Melting Rear Bumper Cover?
I was washing my new-to-me '12 today and noticed that on the driver's side, where the front corner of the rear bumper cover wraps under and *should* be attached to the body, mine was a bit melted and burned. In fact, the bolt hole that should have been there to allow the cover to be secured to the body is completely gone.
The exhaust is right there, and there appears to be a heat shield to protect the body work. Not sure if while in the possession of the previous owner an exhaust hanger broke or something and the exhaust got too close?
Doubt it, but any chance anyone else has seen this? I'll probably get a new bumper cover, as I'm nervous about that corner flapping around at 80MPH, but wanted to make sure this wouldn't happen again.

When you look at the left and right twin exhaust tips, are there both at the same height ?
The previous owner could have hit the left muffler causing the damage. Make sure there is no other damage to undercarriage of the car. Good luck !

Yea, I doubt it is from the exhaust, unless the exhaust was touching that spot directly for a long period of time. Never heard of anyone having problems with their diffuser/bumper like that though. Like Eric ATP said, you may have some other issue going on or the previous owner backed into something on fire, or ran over something to cause that.

But no idea about the bumper cover. I'll pull it next weekend and check it out.

No one here would buy a car that had been set on fire. Most of us also do burnouts... I have posted a few. My bumper cover is perfect.............
Clutch replacement in the speed shift trans is not cheap.. Just FYI.
The attachment is missing. At the very least you need a new bumper cover and hope the rev limiter worked well.
