ECU tuning

If I have my ECU flashed with a tune file, and then flash the stock file back on every time it goes for a service, can the MB dealer pick up that the car has been flashed.
Do the ECU'S record a date stamp of when the ECU was last accessed or flashed?
Want to get mine tuned, but don't want to loose warranty.

The ECU apparently logs write commands so, yes, they can check.

The chances that the dealer checks for a tune are extreeeeemly small, unless you kill your engine. I wouldn't worry too much though.

That was my thinking.
I haven't heard of any issues with these engines.
In general, how reliable are these motors.

Exactly. The dealer generally doesn't care, they don't go out of their way to look, usually it's a non-issue.

Super reliable as long as you maintain it well. There is actually a millage thread where some members topped 120k miles.

Bad news
This is completely wrong. If the dealer plugs in to update your car it automatically TD’s the car and your warranty is likely done...it is not up to the dealer and it is automatic. The ECU has a check digit and records when the tune has been changed.

Good news
Be honest and tell the dealer you have a tune and not to plug in...you should be ok but feel your service advisor out. Note do NOT do this at a sonic dealer as they dont care. There are several large dealers that are ok with it (I have first hand experience on this and my car is likely one of the most modified E’s out there). I wont put the dealers at risk by naming them here but PM me and I will tell you.

Why did you bump a thread no one has responded to in 3 years?

I wouldn't say completely wrong. Also good thing our cars don't get updated. I could see this happening on newer vehicles for sure.

Out of all post, research, and forums, I have only seen issues relating to blown engines where the warranty did not cover, due to mods or a tune (on older models at least). Unless you are a complete douche to the dealer or are asking for very wild warranty repairs, the dealer won't care.
