Drove the E63S
Well... Bye.
Looks like the C63 will be officially gone here in the next couple of weeks. Wanted to downsize and just stay in the x5 for a while but the dealer just got in a 14 e63s and I bit and drove it.
Many of you can imagine what is coming next.
Yes $70k car vs $100k so obviously there will be differences. The interior is so nice guys. Like, the stitching throughout and just the way the materials felt. Extremely nice cockpit to be in. Obviously it doesn't have the one piece seats but they are still very comfortable.
The c63 is DEFINITELY more of a hoon around car. The throttle response is much different between the two. I was first driving the E like I drive my C and the car was just barely cruising up to speed. However, when you hammer it in the E... oh boy. It is a monster. You dont feel the power / speed like the C but the car is hands down faster. C obviously has it's very distinct (and loud) exhaust, but that isn't to say the e63 exhaust isn't worth an honorable mention. It is still very good.
As for the looks, I prefer the E but it is a matter of personal taste. I also like how big the car felt. It is more of a cruiser than a fun mess around car but it is going to be very hard for me to stay away from this one.

Personality-wise, the E63 definitely feels like more of an AMG than the current C63 if you ask me. Great car.
In the last gen, the C63 was ***** out and the E63 was stealth and more low key. They have definitely flipped the script in my opinion. I guess that has to do with value and the pricing food chain.

I guess it's kind of a pun saying the E63 is in a 'class of it's own'
The E class has really stepped up its game this generation. In fact I just saw a 2017 E300 and it looked VERY nice, it's what we would have considered s-class territory in the past. Really well furnished and well refined.

I'm looking to make the same switch.
My only concern is how reliable long term will the car be with a tune?
with the biturbo power I'd just have to tune it.
Also, is the new body e63 amg already coming out this year?
if so is it worth waiting? Are they changing to a new engine?

They are switching to a 4.0... I want the 5.5.
Also, the car I have my eye on is CPO'd through 2019 and the dealer is Renntech friendly so I can Renntech tune and still be good to go.
It would literally be a worry free monster. And don't worry, if all the ducks fall into place I will come back here and post videos of me throwing huge rooster tails in snow filled parking lots in the winter.
Gents, this car is the closest thing that I've driven to checking literally all the boxes. The only thing missing is a place to throw my two pitbulls, and yes, I have looked at wagons but those are still a tad pricey for me.
However, in all reality, I'll probably let my c63 go in September and sit on my x5 until the dead of winter when AMG's hit low pricing then shop. However, just driving the car has sealed the deal on it being my next adventure.
If you are as spontaneous as I am just don't drive it. Seriously.

My buddy has a 2016 E63S wagon in dark blue with light grey interior.
It ticks ALL the boxes, and then some. Monster car.
I sent my daughter to private school this fall, and my son goes next year,
then of course it will be college for both. That took care of any impulse purchases
of that magnitude.

I know now after I drive it I'll be in big trouble. The C will just have to go.
But it one thing, believe it or not I hear that a tuned/row c63 can in fact keep up or posssobly
outrun the e63s if both start from a high speed roll of 60+. But just a tune on the e63s will easily take care of the c even in that situation no problem.
As as for them changing to a 4.0, does this mean the new e63 will be slower/less powerful than the current one?
4.0 biturbo vs 5.5 on a car as big and heavy as an e63 is a huge huge difference isn't it?

As for the 4.0... It is actually going to have more power believe it or not. And be faster. But the nature of the 5.5 is it will be more throaty in the exhaust note.
I've already been on the phone with Renntech as well in terms of tuning. The e63 is a 10 second car with a tune... The c63 takes a supercharger to get there... sooooo.
I absolutely LOVE my c63 and I'm sure I'll get some doubtful butterflies running around in my stomach when it's loaded onto a trailer. But, I also know that when I'm rich and famous (hah) I'll be back in an M156 coupe (507/BS) as just a weekend toy car.
In time... But for now I cannot deny the AWD in the E.

The e63 is a brilliant car. I had the opportunity to drive my uncle's 2015 e63 s. It does not show it's weight at all contrary to what i expected.
I run consistent 11.6x's for now and the E felt faster right out if the box. Very unassuming.
Bloody freight train....

Yeah, that didn't work. Car blew me away.

It's planted like a 4500 pound car and moves like a 3000 pound sports car. I had high expectations going into it, and in my mind I set them really high so that I could at least be a little let down and not so eager to get one myself.

Nothing that big and family friendly should be able to pound nails like that.
TOTAL HAMMER SHOW.
Before the AWD, the wagon was actually quicker cos the extra weight in the rear helped it hook up better.
Before my buddy moved to this one, he had an E55 wagon, with the power 3rd row seat. Nothing like the kids
waving out the back window as you blow the doors off some pimple faced teenager in a fox body Mustang LX,
and you have the massaging seats going lol.

Try it in the wagon. You'll have a hard time getting it to compute.

I did not.
I said before they went to AWD the wagon was faster than the sedan, because the extra weight helped with traction.

Both sedan and wagon come in both now. They used to be just RWD, and certainly were in E55 days.

No. The lighter sedan with AWD would be the fastest because traction isn't the limiting factor like before.

The e63s is stupid fast for a car that size, friend had one and that thing accelerate at a different level than the c63
As you said the interior is another world, makes the w204 c63 interior look like a Toyota
Prices on them are tanking too because of the new bodystyle, if I ever find a good deal on a wagon I might be really tempted but those are still slightly rare. But the thought of blowing some punks doors off in a wagon just amuses me

The wagons are still a little pricey, and while I do like the added practicality of a wagon, the sedan makes my jimmy's tight in the looks department.
I know that it is a personal taste and objective matter there and some may even find the wagon more appealing. I just don't but that works for me because the sedans are already able to be had, CPO'd, in the $60's.

I've been driving my new C63S coupe now for a week after trading my 14 E63S and yes they are vastly different cars. Still getting used to the C and only have a few hundred miles on it so far but first impressions so far are pretty good and I'm happy with the trade. Biggest difference I notice is the overall quality of the materials in the interior of the E is much better. The C seems a bit cheap after owning two E class AMG's but is a lot more fun to drive. It feels quicker and more responsive but doesn't have the hard continuous pull up top like the E did. Looks wise, there's no comparison. The coupe is just a very aggressive looking car in comparison. When driving the E I rarely had anyone challenge me I suppose as it doesn't look much different than any other E class Benz. In the C coupe, every M3, M4, and Audi RS wants to have a go. Looking forward to getting some miles on the C so I can play.
