MaxCare Warranty
So I'm about to buy a 2012 P31 Sedan with 55k miles on it. Carmax is offering a 5 year warranty up to 100k miles for $3,500. The agreement even allows me to take it to mercedes dealerships for repairs.
The stuff it covers are pretty much identical to what you get with a mercedes CPO coverage, except that it lasts 5 years instead of 1.
I understand warranties are a gamble by design, but my gut feeling tells me that this one is worth it.
I feel like in around 5 years time I'll be nearing the 100k mile mark and stuff like suspension control arms, bushings, AC system, and maybe a few electrical gremlins will be needing work, all of which is covered by the plan.
Any advice / thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you plan on holding onto it for 5 more years, I think its worth it. I paid about $2200 for an extra 3 years past the 4 years. Im on that now and while, knock on wood, I have had zero problems, its nice knowing anything major is covered.

I would do it, that cost will be covered in a couple of repairs or so. I bought an after-market extended warranty for my old car (BMW) and ended up up a good $5,000 ahead.

Research it online. Normally aftermatket warranties are bad. A lot of times these aftermatket insurances have to go through an approval and sometimes get denied for basic issues that are normally covered. Find a review of the company offering it. Factory ones are typically good.

Carmax warranty is considered to be one of the best. That seems like a good deal. My dad got a W211 E550 from them and has gotten more than the cost of the warranty. He has had his air suspension fail twice at $2200 each time and the rear sunshade at $1000. They usually don't give you a hard time about claims. He gets it fixed at the MB dealer. I can't remember if there is a $200 deductible if you don't use carmax to fix it. Other than the CPO warranty i would say it's probably one of the best, most hassel free warranties you can buy.

As long as the warranty is good (and it sounds like it is according to Chris), it's worth it at that price IMO. I've had two AMG's with 2 extended warranties (MBELW) and they paid for themselves easily.

Thanks for the input guys. I went ahead and got the warranty. It's a $300 deductible if I take it to Mercedes and $250 deductible at carmax. It is "per visit" not per repair.
I was hesitant because I know these cars are pretty reliable. If it was a prefacelift with the head bolt problem potential, it would have been a no brain er.

I've heard the CarMax warranty is one of the best. I actually just purchased my '13 C63 from CarMax and got the warranty. 5 years and 100k miles, but my car only had 14k so it seems like a steal for me. I've heard good things online and I had a friend who used their warranty and didn't have any issues getting things fixed.
