Tell them if they want to make a sale here is my my phone number and they can call you and then walk away. My guess is that if that car sits on the lot another few days they will be calling you back. It is getting close to the end of the month and they need to post sales numbers. If they are selling for 43k they paid significantly less (33-35k or less) either as a trade in, lease turn in, or auction sale. They have room to move . Good Luck !!

The time you can get a really good deal is when the car you're making the low ball offer on will keep them from moving a higher margin car. This can happen around year end, etc. That's a pretty aggressive offer for a truly loaded and low mile car (in your area). In other parts of the country, it might be closer, but I'm not surprised they declined. How long has it been sitting there? The longer it sits, the more emotion will come into play and they'll get sick of looking at it.

For what it's worth, that's a bit under what I paid for my 2012 with a bit more mileage and I got to enjoy the last two seasons with it.




Don't settle. Wait for the right car. It's worth it.

you're not going to find a 12+ with that mileage for 33-35k. Not even at an auction. With the package, you're not going to find anything much less than $42k. They will sit on that car a lot longer than a base c class. The market on these cars with the face lift is pretty consistent and not moving much at all. Someone will buy the car at that price if OP doesn't.

If you are speaking to the salesman, you ARE speaking directly to the sales manager. There is not one salesman on one lot who can make his own deals and call the shots. They just don't have that power. The sales may guy be talking like he's "working for you" but he is going in the back and getting instructions/decisions from the sales manager. What ever number comes back, or doesn't as the case may be, is coming straight from the sales manager. And I can tell you for a fact that you can think you are a serious buyer and you can tell him all about your sincerity, and in the back of his mind there is a little tape playing that says:

"Oh yeah, well, if you're so damn serious stop dicking around and show me the money. Pee or get off the pot".

Telling them you are serious don't mean a thing. Some of the most ludicrous offers I have ever dealt with in a lifetime of sales have come from "very serious buyers".

Back in June I got my 2013 at the auction for the price you are looking to pick this 2012 up for. My car was uniquely loaded/color combo with pretty much everything with about 32k miles. I had seen the car come up at the auction with a buy it now price and I contacted the dealer selling it and worked out my own deal and went to auction to get it.

Car did need rear tires but I could care less about that. It has warranty until 9/2017 from Mercedes. Put 10k miles on it already and its been great.

I suggest you go to auction. My car at dealer would have easily been 7k-9k more.

Not trying to argue or beat a dead horse but kbb trade in value is 35-37 depending on options.. my 33-35 guess was pretty close

But that means they could have easily paid 37 for it, which is basically what he offered, and thats before they put any shop and/or detail time in to it, plus maybe tires etc. Then they gotta pay the overhead. And the salesman. And on and on and on.

Their pricing doesn't sound unreasonable. And lets face it, buyers are always going to want money off. So if it was priced at 39k, he would would prolly want to pay 35 lol.

I agree with 604 C63. I have never bought a car that did not get bought without the approval of a higher authority and when it comes to cars god is the sales manager.
That said, I have used this walk away tactic a couple of times to advantage. I recall one pooer sod who thought I was bluffing. He called 3 days late and asked I come in to sign the deal I offered. I got a great deal of pleasure telling him I had bought a car from someone who was not so smart as he was.
If you can find out how their month has been on sales it some times will work better to catch them at the end of the month particularly if they have had a slow month. December can be a good month to buy late.
As others have noted. Be calm, don't fall in love yet. Don't appear anxious to get in to it. Treat it more as a divorce.

Yeah maybe the commission sales guy just wasn't in to making the pay cheque.

I have a 2012, all maintenance records up to date, CPO until 4/2017 black magnetite with 55k on the clock I'm about to put up for sale. $41,900.

Tastefully modded, tuned, wheels, CF parts etc...

After taxes I think OP will be right where he is with the dealership. I think he wants to stay as close to 40k (with all expenses included) as possible.

Can't hurt to try .. Be persistent.. don't take no for an answer, try to find out as much information as possible to help you, and be willing to walk away.. its not personal its a business deal. Last time I bought a new car I knew I wanted the best deal for the car I wanted. I got a dozen no's before I found the right deal. Be patient and be willing to travel outside your area and the right deal will present its self.
