New to AMG experience

Hi Guys,

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section.

I'm writing from Atlanta, GA. I just purchased a 2011 c63 AMG with 58k miles.

I've put roughly 20 miles on the car and I must say that I am very impressed with the car. I love the luxury part and the comfort that comes with the power.

I have always owned a Subaru, even tried a BMW, 5 series. The BMW was by far the worst car I've owned. It kept breaking down to the point that I just traded the darn thing.

I recently made a decision to sell my Subaru STi and join the AMG family. I just couldn't find anything in the ballpark that could beat the 6.3(6.2) four door v8. Especially after reading good reviews about it. I mainly traded the Sti so that I could get something that's just as fun, if not more, but something that I could also drive my kids in as well.

So that's what brought me here.

I'm still researching these cars and learning. But for now I just wanted to introduce myself and I hope to meet some of you over time.

quick, iphone picture:

I too have a 2011 C63, which has those stock side marker lamps. Why does everybody remove / black those out? If there's some sort of universal ugliness of those, I guess I'm too dense to realize it yet.

I think everyone hates the side markers because they are a US thing and the non US cars look cleaner without them. Since it is for the US they look a bit tacked on since they are just an afterthought to adhere to regulation.

Welcome to the forum. I am still looking for my first C63 but I started this journey by test driving a WRX so I can understand what lead you here. From what I have read the best bang for the buck is retuning the ECU with a mygenius and tune from Eurocharged V5. Im sure someone can correct me if I am wrong but guys are seeing HP bumped to 525 or more with just a tune. I think a tune and removing the secondary cats, and headers are some of the most common mods.

There is a great sticky with lots of info here..

Go outside and look at them. Actually look at them.
Now tell me they dont look like they could come off a 1989 Oldsmobile Alero or whatever the hell they call their midsize crap cars then.

So dated. So ugly. So out of place.

Must be removed.

Welcome to the club, Slow.

You can buy clear/smoked ones off eBay or you can vinyl wrap them. Vinyl wrap them is prob the easiest/cost efficient route. Just get some off Amazon (3M vinyl). Really easy to apply.

I actually bought the smoked ones, sanded them down to remove the numberings and make smooth, then applied the vinyl. If you don't want light to shine through and not have the car give you an error code (for bulb out). Take a led for it, break the led's with a screwdriver and plug back in. No code thrown, no light shining through.

They are just always ugly on cars. Like one of those school stop sign/crosswalk holders with the bright orange vests.

You'll start to notice it now. Fully modded cars that have every bell and whistle....then those nasty orange dumba** side cones.

Yeah, I suspect now I'll be convinced I don't like them due to what everybody is saying in this forum.

I'm guessing they aren't required to pass inspection. Has anybody had any issues passing inspection with those lights removed / blocked / different colored?

Enjoy the C63

Unlike you I kept my 04 STi. In the process of having a shortblock rebuilt, just dropped it off this weekend.

Would recommend you consider a tune as a good starting place

Just kidding. Welcome aboard! Nice sedan you've got there. Don't listen to these forever-mod-freaks, otherwise you won't get rest!

I live in Lawrenceville, near Suwanee. I'm down the street from Collins Hill park off of Russell Road.

Nice car btw.

I'm not sure on the mods just yet. Maybe a supercharger down the road.

What is the reason for those ugly side markers.
There are indicators in the front lights and on the mirrors, so I don't see the point that of the additional markers.

US law. The DOT requires orange reflectors near the front of a vehicle and red reflectors near the rear. You can also be issued a ticket for removing / altering the orange reflectors. But, in the real world you never will unless you are a total d-bag after being pulled over and a cop wants to hit you for literally everything. Even then they'd probably miss the reflectors.

The c-class crowd is lucky. Go look at where the reflectors are on the E-class. Hint: inside the headlight. I'm sitting here trying to justify the expense of getting euro-headlights for mine.

Indicators (signals) are different than the reflectors and not related.

Are the reflectors legally required in Canada? I'm thinking of just removing them altogether since making them clear or wrapping them just draws more attention IMO. I assume it would leave a hole though?

Think of the holes as speed holes.

I think they are. But......are you going to let laws get in the way of making your car look cool? Where are your priorities, man? Get your head on straight and GET IN THE GAME, SON.
