Head Unit Volume Control
So the audio volume control on the head unit was not functioning normally. It took a lot of turns to get very little volume change.
Volume switches on the wheel worked fine.
I fixed it. Gave it a might thump with my hand while turning it with the other. Works fine now!
Yankee screwdriver technology!

Speaking of volume, does anyone know how to prevent the audio system from always starting out at a seemingly (high) preset level? If I leave the volume on low when I shut down the car and then get back in and start up the car, the audio starts playing at a high volume. It seems like it's set to always start playing at this high level. Didn't find anything in the book or online either. Pretty annoying.

That's interesting...lol
On a slightly related subject...I feel the phone volume level doesn't get nearly loud enough.
Phone: iPhone 7 latest OS
Car: 2012 sedan

Turn your phone volume up full and see if the audio volume contols are any different. They usually compliment each other.
As to the voice commands in NAV the volume on that is independent of the audio control. When the voice is speaking adjust the volume on the wheel to a level you can hear it over the audio playing,

Agreed. I was referring to the actual phone volume.
When talking with someone on the phone via bluetooth it doesn't seem to want to get loud enough.
I've turned the dial for ever and tried the steering wheel controls as well.

A suggestion you may already have tried.

You guys need to seek out the engineering menu. Id look for you but Im on my iPad and its a hassle. Just search "engineering menu". Pretty sure there are parameters in there for initial volume etc.

I checked this morning and couldn't find any options to increase the volume.
