Unlocked my Nav while in motion - much better now!
Asked the wife to enter and address while we where out driving around on the weekend and to my horror she could not. Have not had this issue since a mid 2000's Lexus POS - all my other german vehicles, BMW and Audi have not locked Nav while in motion, but I guess Mercedes does - sucks.
Did some searching and found BimmerGuru in Toronto, send him your model and VIN and he sends you some stuff to burn to a CD-R or DVD-R and an unlock code and 2 minutes later problem solved. Now my wife can enter stuff while we are moving - it unlocks everything while in motion, so DVD in motion and anything else that locks while moving -was well worth the money in my book.
Just a PSA for others that find this annoying - I don't condone distracted driving like watching a DVD (which is also illegal) but having a passenger enter an address is very handy and technically it is no illegal anywhere in the US to do it as the driver either.

I'd rather shoot myself than have to use the voice-activated nav functions in the FL Comand, so this is really good news. What's this cost?

is there a way to get our nav to show our position going the way we are driving instead of upside down most of the time.i swear the nav in my Honda is better then my13 63. half the time you have to look at it upside down and it's a pain trying to get to side streets where u have to take a bunch of left and right turns.

In 2008 the province of BC announced the beginning of construction of the South Fraser Perimeter Road that provided a clear run from points southwest of Vancouver to the east without going through town. It opened in December 2013.
In January 2014 Google Maps, Apple Maps and even my cheap Nuvi 40 LM had updated maps showing this route so I figured big smart Mercedes Benz would have a map update for my 2011 E class which had the 2010 version.
I bought it planning to share cost with a couple of other owners of cars of the same vintage.
Two issues emerged.
First, it was a one time use set of discs. Nobody could get them to work after I updated my system.
Second, after 5 yrs of notice and construction the SFPR was not on the map update. When challenged the BS that came out about programming and having locals testing blah, blah, blah takes time and their maps will alway be - their statement - 2 yr behind reality. Odd for a company the size of Navteq was so inferior in performance that Garmin, Google and even Apple.
So I don't care to pay to unlock this dumb system. If I can get an entry into it by voice OK. If I am stopped and can enter it manually OK.
Otherwise, I use my phone to find the directions and put it in my pocket, watch the map on screen for reference and follow directions. It works perfectly even to the point it will update as you cross county lines and will give you pretty much every name the road you are on has historically, officially and in local use. I will not spend one dime on anything to do with the Nav system. She who shall be listened to can enter stuff on the phone if need be.

You can choose between North Up or heading up. In the latter the top of the map is the direction the car is going.

I can't do that in good conscience but do what you want if you buy it - the files on the DVD are detected and it starts and install and asks for a key to continue and is coded to the VIN, guessing you need MB Star or something to generate the key.

ceevee kindly indicated the cables necessary to interface an iPhone to the AUX input and tells us that we can mirror our phones on screen while the car is in Park.
An email to Bimmergaru was a bit less precise to the point I am not so sure that the AUX input gets unlocked with his software. I asked for further clarification.

The more I thought about this issue the more it appeals to me to be able to use my phone with its up to date maps vs. NavTeq'a 2 yr out of date on any new update.

Then convert the RCA's into a 1/4 plug that goes into the mercedes input jack with audio and video on it like this https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...ml#post6660151
Lot of work and not sure if it will work at all!
