Headers on daily driver
Trying to keep the wife happy. Want to have headers on my C63 but they will be too loud for a daily driver. Has anyone installed a valved exhaust( quiet mode race mode) with the headers? If so did it make the car livable.

Subscribing to this thread. I just bought a C63 with headers, hi-flo cats, resonator deleted, and aftermarket mufflers. The thing is loud and the wife hates it.
I'm throwing the OEM mufflers on this weekend to see if it makes a difference. If not, I'll be adding a resonator back in.
Curious to see what others have done as well.

I have the full IPE system w/ Valvetronic mufflers. The car starts w/ valves closed and is very tolerable. It screams when the valves are open.
Even though I don't drive my car daily, I still wouldn't even consider headers and a non-valvetronic exhuast for my car. There are times when I simply don't want my car to be loud. Cold starts, coming home late at night, in parking garages, at work...

I daily my car. Headers, cats, Remus exhaust. Cold starts are loud but daily cruising is tolerable. If you don't mash the throttle every second it's stock-like.
However, everyone's tolerance level, especially spousal tolerance, is different. This is an impossible question to answer for you. If she's super sensitive don't bother. Otherwise I vote go for it and see what happens...

The Akropovic rear sections seem to be the way to go. There are quite a few youtube clips of them on cars with headers and they seem to be much more tolerable.

Mine is similar set up to Brunty88. IPE headers, sports cats to OEM resonator and mufflers.
Cold start is music to ears daily! I start mine up in my garage.
Then slowly cruise out of the neighbourhood.
Daily drive mine and its ok on cruising. Once you open it up, it roars! By then, i am in the open road.
As long as the OEM resonator is on, then the AMG bark is still there. Less raspy compared to valvetronic backboxes.
Will be considering Akrapovic when i get older and no longer like the loudness. Akrapovic is deeper tone and changes the AMG tone.

Just got a Kleemann tune, header, downpipes and LSD. Much bigger bark than stock. I start it in the morning with the garage door down not to wake the neighbors. Any ideas to keep the performance but tone down it down a bit.

I just installed MBH headers, midpipe and xpipe.
If you drive the car normal, shift at 2k or before, the car is very quiet. You cant even tell that anything was done to the car.
At WOT, 2k+, the car screams like an F1. It can be heard from a different county.

Thanks guys. Love the new power and really like the new sound, just feel bad about the neighbors. I'll check out Akrapovic or I'll just sell my house and move out in the country.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Akra is the only exhaust that tones down the headers. I have had my stock setup / Eisenmann Race and finally upgraded to the Akra Evolution system. The Akra is the way to go if you want to tone down the LT's. Even on cold start its no where near as loud as the stock mufflers / Eisenmann.

Would you say that after a few miles on the LTH's that things tone down a little. I don't have many miles on mine and oh boy, I think the whole county police force is looking for me.

Once I come to terms with the price (~$3,500 USD), I am going to get the Akra cat-back exhaust. It tones down the headers substantially and the rumble is PERFECT in my opinion.
If you are at all concerned about LTH's being too loud, you should just go ahead and budget for a valve-tronic or Akrapovic exhaust a while, because you will need it.
