thanks for the post, this was to easy! I was less then $70.00CDN and 2hrs of my time. It will do till my Renntech lowering box comes in.
P.S, I found that I couldnt get my front low enough with the washers alone.

I know this is old thread, but I want to do my 03 CL and this is the only link i've found... I've been told, the rears are adjustable already no need to change only the front ones, can anyone confirm...
found a place that will do it for 300.00 and I asked them and they said same thing. change front links and use my own rear since they are adjustable...

I think you had it backward. The front can be adjusted (to a certain degree) by adding washers and the rear has to be replaced with shorter links.

I am thinking about ordering the rod ends and making the links for the front ones since adding washers didn't lower enough.

None of the CL Links are adjustable. Only the S w/o ABC Sport 2000 - 2006 has the rear adjustable Link. You can spend time playing around and making your own or just grab the right 1's from me.

Just make all four like I did. It is super simple for the budget DIY project. Someone totaled my CL almost two years ago and I'm looking to snag another. I can't seem to quit thinking about it. This time around I may however buy the links from the adjustable air ride guy as my days are swamped now and hunting rod ends may cost more time wise than having em done and drop shipped...or maybe a module if the price is right. Who knows we will see. I am glad to see everyone enjoying this thread... POST pics!!!

A bit cheaper on Ebay. I just got them in the mail.
Will try to do it this weekend but scared to death twisting the originals off.

The rear ones are hard to reach when the car is on ramps. I guess jacking it up is the way to go.

got em all done. Wasn't too bad, only that it was the first time I jacked the CL up.

Did the front first to get the feel of it when you twist the stock ones off.
Recommend first timers to jack it up and take the wheel off. Especially when you do the back ones. Much easier.

For the Fronts, you make it longer from 5mm or more. 5mm longer lowers the car 1/2inch to 3/4inch. I tried 15mm and it pretty much dropped it sick. Drivable but asking for trouble.

Popping it off the replacement one was easier then the stock ones. Just grab the stock one with a vise grip and gently twist it off.

I went for it on the first one, just go in and twist it off, just don't snap the side connected to the arm of the sensor. The other side is fixed, so you twist that one first and then gently and twist bend back the whole connector to pop it off the one that connects to the arm of the sensor.

For now I Dialed it back with it at 7.5mm larger then stock and it's lowered the way I like it.

For the rear ball adaptor, making it short by 5mm, lowers it 1/2inch to 3/4 inch. Made it also 7.5mm smaller.


Might try it at 10mm next weekend, and have it in low low when parked and then hitting the suspension double double to raise it to a safer level for driving.

Looks good! With an actual lowering module the car doesnt drop too much at higher speeds. That and the price is the biggest difference that I can see

Glad to see everyone enjoying it. I now have the remntech module with remote...much more involved install. The advantage is you can drop it on the fly and adjust seperate wheels from a digital remote when you choose...so say you want it superslammed to park but normal to drive easy as turning module on and pushing the abc button...instant 2" drop... Cost os high and install is a pain...or some expensive shop time think mine charged me $300 or so. Rods are defiantly the way to go for less complex install unless one is confident in tapping harness wires and rewiring them.

If you can afford it get the module with remote.

After each height adjustment with rods its a good idea to get alignments...mine would shake like crazy at high speeds after my first rod install. Good luck

yup, no issues wit the rods for me so far. I would have gone the Renntech ELM route but my CL65 is pristine with no "0" issues. After reading the ELM installation manual and how you splice in, I reconsidered.

I have been told by a guy with the Star computer program that you can lower the car to the European specs by simply selecting the "Germany" setting in that section. That sounds a whole lot easier and way cheaper than all these other options.

Here is the exact quote: "You know that you can lower the car via STAR DAS right? You can also code the CGW to Germany as the designated country of sale for the car and it will meet the euro bumper height requirements."

You can try it but as I have written before, sometimes it doesn't work, or it will hold the values for a week, maybe a couple and eventually it will resort to factory ride height specs.

Just get the lowering module. For a car as nice and prestigous like this, I can't believe people are lowering them using washers and homedepot made lowering kits. I just simply shake my head. I for one would never buy a used Mercedes that was lowered using washers or links. I would wonder what else they cheaped out on. These cars aren't Honda's and even those guys lower their cars properly using coilovers.
