Car for sale on CL is described as a 2001 CL500 AMG Sport.
What is it? It's not a CL55 AMG.
Was it built or modified by AMG.
Is it rare?
Is it just a trim package from MB?
Was the letters AMG ever on the window sticker?
Is it worth any more than a 2001 CL500?

A friend of mine is really interested in buying it, but is afraid the seller is not being honest about the description and feels its just a CL500 & nothing really AMG about it.
Are we wrong?

It's just a CL500 with AMG body kit and AMG wheels. It's not an actual AMG car - just an appearance package. The car is probably worth a $1,000 more than a standard CL500.

No it isn't rare. The AMG appearance kit was an option and many exist.

The work was done while on the factory line, not at AMG.

Factory installed option & NOT installed at AMG correct???

My 2003 CL500 has the CL2 Sport Option:

Option price: $5100
Staggered width !8" AMG thin-spoke monoblock alloy wheels with high-performance tires.
AMG-design sculpted lower bodywork.

The 2001 option may/may not be the same.

2001 had the same option but included the 5 spoke AMG monoblock wheels if I remember correctly. The price in 2001 may have been a bit less for the option as well.

This car has the AMG emblem on the trunk lid & the guy swears it cam that way from the factory.

The sport package did not come w/ any AMG emblems ,correct??

That is correct. ONLY the CL55 carried the AMG trunk emblem from the factory. The AMG emblem in your case was added at some point after the vehicles delivery to the dealer.

I too have a 2001 CL 500 with the AMG trim package AMG shifter, pedals, ground effects....Love this car !

That's just it. It's not called the " AMG" trim package.MB called it CL2. People advertise these cars as AMG & they are not. Sellers are being dishonest to people that don't know the truth. Nothing truely AMG about them.

From what I understand,it did not say AMG at all.
The window sticker just had a option CL2.

Don't get so bent. All I'm saying is that what ever my package is called makes no difference to me...I know I have a CL500 not an AMG...It has these CL2 options..I still think it's the greatest car I've ever owned...

Not bent at all.You just mentioned AMG again & that was the issue we where having w/ the guy selling the car.
