I have installed a whole new lock/vacuum assembly which was a PAIN.
If you can just fix the vacuum cap with that kit, you won't have to remove nearly as much as when replacing a whole unit.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do is avoid the extra pita work in replacing the entire assembly. I'm hoping someone here has used one. Actually I don't have the panel off yet so I'm not sure what the problem is. But my wife heard the loud pop a while back and now you can hear hissing when the assist is trying to work. So I assume that's the problem. I read your post on the project...nice job.

I have seen the repair kits sold from a dealer in Australia. They have had positive comments.
Also MUCH cheaper than buying a $600 part.
Some others have epoxied the cap back on but the tabs usually break, which is the weak link of the cap.

I guess you are referring to Mono from Australia for the part. Via email I asked about the kit and they got back to me and said they weren't sure what they had would work on a CL. Do you have a part no.?

Regarding the repair kit I originally asked about in this thread, I asked for installation directions from the seller. He said its best to remove the entire lock assembly and then replace the cap. Does this make sense to you since you've done the compete job? How much more time is required to remove and reinstall the assembly? If I have to remove the assembly, I'll probably put a new MB one on.

Total removal is a pain. The glass needs to come out in order to get the entire locking unit out.
There is a ton of crap inside the door. Antennas (Keyless go), insulation which is affixed with black glue, etc.
If I were to attempt this again, I would try to repair it in place without removing the unit.

Regarding the need to remove the window to replace the actuator, if it is all the way up, would it still need to be removed? Also, do you think there is enough room to just install this cap kit without removing the assembly? Here's a thread with some pics to refresh your memory.

FWIW, this cap kit says it's just for the CL. Also, the MB actuator part no. starts with 215 and the following supplier says just for the CL.

UPDATE: I did a little more research on this cap kit and the CL and S model kits are different part nos. so this would indicate the caps are different for one reason or another.

just use epoxy to reinforce the cap. if done properly it will probably be stringer than the replacement cap and a lot cheaper.

In order to remove the entire locking unit the window needs to come out and then the regulator run all the way down for access.
If you were just replacing the cap white the unit in place, you could just have the window up all the way.

i did the epoxy, jb weld with the unit off the car and it worked. i would assume it could probably be done on the car, but not sure.

Repair Kit from Ebay
ZO6Tom did that repair kit you bought on Ebay work and were you able to do the repair with the unit still in the door? My driver door has been out for a couple years now and I have learned to live with it because I didn't want to pay $400+ to get a new one and deal with taking the glass out to remove the unit. If this repair kit works and can be done with the unit still in the door I would be willing to tackle it and get it fixed.
